Very conspicuous absence of Bender on that list. Vingle knows what he is writing, and he is pretty close with Huggs, so I think it is very reasonable to read into that quote.

For reference I think the last football season was a C+, the 10-3 season with Skyler a B+.

B+ only because we lost to Kansas 3 times (and blew a lead to Kentucky). We beat Kansas once and Kentucky its a solid A-, and if that win against Kansas was in the Big 12 tourney it would be an A.

Great post:
"The ncaa has made it perfectly clear they don't want aggressive defensive teams. Offense is king in this league." The 3-point shot is king, and now 50+% of fouls are called at the three point or beyond. On a post up equally likely to get an offensive foul as draw a foul. Teams like Villanova and Kansas are perfectly built for this, with athletic players and bigs who all can shoot. We had a GREAT season - let's hope we can get back to the sweet 16 next year.

We weren't better than runner-up Gonzaga last year, and we weren't better than power rankings #1 this year. Certain nights we could beat them, but not the majority of the time.
The poster than said we were better than both of those teams is just wrong.

Lots of fouls but disagree that it is an unwatchable game. This game is fantastic - back and forth classic.

But I will summarize - Whine! Why can't we play defense like Virginia yet still shoot like Kansas! Whine! And get all 5 star players! Whine!

Talkoption your posts have some merit that is drowned out by the most annoying writing and attitude on this board. I hate your posts, but that is just one man's opinion.

Completely agree on the D-line concerns. I am not sold on McDougle either. I think we may have the worst D-line of the Holgerson era (if last year wasn't the worst). Still think we can get to 9 wins with high scoring wins.

And Oklahoma really isn't very good. Thank goodness we have the win against Virginia, otherwise pretty slim resume.

No way best team under Huggins. I am not sure it would beat last year's team (which was Sagarin top 10 and a play away from Elite 8 if not Final Four). But still a Sweet 16 team, which hopefully will be a new floor for us.

Miles shooting is awful, but can't underestimate other aspects of his game (i.e defense, and this year assists). I really do believe he will finish above 30% for three for the year. Nowhere to go but up. I believe he will hit a stretch sometime soon when he catches fire for a few games.

Another weird stat:
Last year -- 45.4% FG shooting, 68.5% FT shooting This year -- 42.3% FG shooting, 75.1% FT shooting Is this just less easy transition baskets after steals? Also interesting: This year -- top FG percentage is Konate at 50.7% Last year -- Macon (55.3%), Konate (56.4%), and Watkins (57.1) were above 55%.

I actually think Miles is having a pretty good year except for FG shooting. 3.5 assists a game, more than double last year. FT shooting way up. If he were shooting the 36% from three he shot as a freshman, or even the 33% he shot last year, he would be living up to his potential IMO.
Interesting Ahmad stat to speak to "flow" of the offense when he is on the floor: Last year -- 24 minutes a game, 1.7 assists a game This year -- 25 minutes a game, 0.6 assists a game (i.e. he has THREE assists since coming back)

1. Because Konate is commonly in foul trouble.
2. Because Miles, unfortunately, has lost all confidence as a shooter. 3. Because West and Ahmad are playing terribly. 4. Because this team continually gives up WIDE open threes.

I like looking at the end of the year stats for trends that help explain our season. It seemed to me that our D-line was very weak compared to last year. The stats bear that out in terms of total tackles contributed by the 4 key members of the D-line:
WVU D line 2017: Donahue 40 tackles, Shuler 37 tackles, Rose 24 tackles, McDougle 23 tackles WVU D line 2016: Darrien Howard 66 tackles, Nwachuku 40 tackles, Shuler 34 tackles, Brown 34 tackles Brief summary: 2016 174 tackles, 2017 124 tackles. Huge different at the NT position.

Justin was a good player, enjoying watching him play. But in terms of his legacy, and where he ranks in all-time WVU best RBs, consider this amazing stat:
He scored a total of 3 TDs in 2 seasons against Big 12 teams not named Kansas.
