That defies all logic....

For what?? To lose a meaningless game???

How do you NOT put Sills in 1st? Crest 2nd? Hell, Crawford/McKoy/Pettaway/Wellman Diamond Wildcat 3rd before burning a redshirt on your future backup for 1 meaningless game that we're most likely to lose anyway?

If they burn a redshirt for this, the entire coaching staff needs to be fired immediately. That would be stupid to an epic degree. This season is a wash, more or less, already. No need to screw ourselves even further.

Is David Israel redshirted? He is a Sophomore Juco transfer right?

The staff wanted to redshirt him.

I say throw Crest in the fire with some option game and see what happens.

Hell, with Crawford, McKoy and Pettaway we should shock everyone and switch to a Wishbone offense for the last 2 games.

It is my understanding that the defense can neither clap, nor bark out noises and if they do it will result in a delay of game penalty. I have also seen this called twice this year in Big 12 games.

I have a vague recollection that one of the coaches, either Dana, or one of our opponents was complaining about clapping by defense earlier in the season. Maybe a coach complaining our defense was clapping. Anyone remember this? It's to mess with the O Line because so many QB's clap to have the ball snapped now.

I think it was Miss State or someone like that clapping, and they've been able to demonstrate that their LBs actually use clapping as a communication tool.

Found it, this is the one I was thinking of from 2014...

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/spor ... s-msus-clapping/16885997/

On the Big Ten teleconference Tuesday, Pelini suggested his center and quarterback were having trouble with exchanges because Michigan State players were clapping their hands in an effort to confuse the Huskers' offense.

"That's something I'll talk to the league office," Pelini said.

The Cornhuskers had a couple of false start penalties and a delay of game in the loss in East Lansing, and the rules state that any attempt to "disconcert opponents when they are preparing to put the ball in play," should result in a penalty.

But MSU coach Mark Dantonio, when asked about it on the teleconference, suggested a different approach.

"In an environment like we had here, he has to look at the quarterback, I guess," Dantonio said. "I don't know. … From my perspective, we can move our people however we want."

After practice on Tuesday, Michigan State players and coaches dismissed the notion they were trying to throw off the Cornhuskers.

"If you watch us we clap our butts, we clap our hands, we raise the roof, we tap our heads," defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi said. "We've got little things every week we change it, but we've got different things we do. … We do it all the time."

Linebacker Ed Davis explained the linebackers often clap to let the defensive linemen know their positioning. He was insistent there was no other reasoning for the clapping from the Spartans.

I'm in the minority, but the delay of game penalty was deserved...one of our LBs clearly was barking trying to get the OL to false start.

"Sags has got to get with us," said Huggins on his postgame radio show with Tony Caridi. "He's got to get on the same page as us and he will be. He's a great kid, an absolutely great kid."

Huggins would go on to using an analogy about birds flying in a v-formation all together, noting "they stay in formation," and insinuating that Konate was not.

"The transition from being the star to being the piece (is difficult)," said Huggins. "Look at how long it took Jevon Carter. Look at how long it took Da'Sean Butler. Look at how long it took Joe Alexander... you got to put the work in."

When asked if this was a one-game only punishment, the Mountaineer head coach hesitated a bit, but said it should be.

"I'm planning on (playing him Saturday)," he said. "I'm planning on him playing pretty well."

We're highly likely to have 3-1000 yard receivers this year.

Current yards with 3 to play (including bowl game)

Jennings: 938 yards (talk about the unsung hero of the team, he's #3 in the country with 8.2 receptions per game)

White: 907 yards

Sills: 856 yards

I personally love my Husqvarna. I also used to help my dad with his logging business, so I have some experience.

The Huskys cut with speed...they don't have much torque, so you need to keep the chain sharp and the RPMs up....but if you do, it cuts like a hot knife through butter. The Stihls tend to be slower, but have more torque. If you start to back off the throttle while putting some force into it, a Husky will stall but the Stihl will power through.

I prefer the saw to do the work, not me...hence I went with the Husky.

One tip though...what ever you decide to get, DO NOT BUY ONE FROM A BOX STORE (Lowes/Home Depot/etc). Save yourself the wasted money and buy a professional grade saw from a dealer. Even though you'll pay more, over the life of the saw it will be well worth it.

I initially bought a Husqvarna 450 Rancher from Lowes...huge mistake. I actually took it back after 1 weekend of use. I ended up getting a 372XP from a Husqvarna dealer instead...a MUCH better saw even with a smaller engine.

I believe the "easy start" feature that he's talking about is the blue "decompression valve" button that relieves the pressure from the cylinder to make it MUCH easier to start....it's a great feature.

“I think it’s a humbling experience for all these kids,” said WVU offensive coordinator Jake Spavital.....“We don’t want finger pointing and guys going different directions,” he said. “We have a good offense. [Saturday] obviously wasn’t our day but we have to keep the mojo together and move forward from here.”....“Motivation is in play,” Spavital said. “We should be motivated to get back out there on the field based on the display of offense we put on the field [Saturday]. I’ll watch the tape, get back at it and try to get these guys in position to have success. Hopefully they’ll be ready to respond to it.”

“You don’t want to beat them down,” said WVU receivers coach Tyron Carrier. “They know. They know more than anybody. I’m not going to beat them down. I’m going to show them their mistakes and we’re going to get better from it.”

“We played hard defensively, outside, cornerwise,” said WVU cornerbacks coach Doug Belk of the OSU game. “I thought we competed, played hard, had some contested passes. We made them work hard. We have to tackle better and play better overall. We have to continue to work hard. We have to make plays and get off the field in critical situations.”

That hardly sounds "uncomfortable"...it almost seems like the coaches either a) Don't get it, or b) Don't care.

http://www.register-herald.com/sports ... 5e-a2fd-4230df9ea597.html

In 2013, WVU had one of college football’s worst defenses. The Mountaineers ranked 102nd in the nation, allowing 454 yards per game. You know what else was bad that season? WVU’s running game. The Mountaineers averaged fewer than 150 yards per game on the ground during that forgettable campaign.

In 2014, WVU averaged 182 yards per game on the ground. The defense suddenly held opponents below 400 yards per game, and the win total jumped from four the previous year to seven.

In 2015, Holgorsen was even more devoted to the run. WVU rushed the ball for 228 yards per game that season, and the defense followed, again giving up fewer than 400 yards per game. The win total jumped once again, this time to eight.

In 2016, the rushing numbers were almost exactly the same, with WVU averaging 228 yards per game on the ground. The defense held up its end of the bargain, and the Mountaineers had their best season in five years as a Big 12 member, finishing 10-3.

Eight games into the season, the Mountaineers rank 69th nationally, averaging just 161 yards per game on the ground. It should come as no surprise, then, that the defense has struggled. For the first time since 2013, WVU is averaging fewer than 180 yards per game on the ground. And for the first time since 2013, the Mountaineers are allowing more than 425 yards per game — 460 to be exact — on defense.

The problem comes when that passing game isn’t working. With the Mountaineers’ ability to grind out first downs three and four yards at a time pretty limited, there just aren’t many options. So what ends up happening are three-and-outs that put a young and battered defense right back out on the field.

WVU currently ranks 115th in time of possession, keeping the ball only a little more than 27 minutes per game. That means the opponent has the ball the other 33 minutes, and when an offense — especially a Big 12 offense — has the ball that much, it’s bound to put some yardage in the stat sheet and some points on the scoreboard.

Uhhh no. #1. Notre Dame only plays 12 games, #2 Notre Dame plays Miami. 3. Washington and Washington State play each other, both can't finish with one loss. And winner has awful SOS. Wisky has zero shot if they lose Big Ten title game,(It'd prob be there only ranked game) there SOS is awful.

Ok...so change ND record to 11-1 and take Miami out of the 1 loss pool....BFD, it's not like it deconstructs the entire post.

I also "and/or"d Washington and Washington State, not both...it's pretty obvious you can't have two conference champions.

Regarding ND...with the eyeballs they bring and a 4-1 record against the T25 (and the only loss being a 1-point loss to the undefeated SEC champ)...I'm not convinced they don't jump Clemson who owns a very bad loss to Syracuse.

Regardless of the 4th spot going to ND or Alabama...it's looking likely that this might be the year TWO P5 conference champs get left out, along with a 11-1 Penn State team (surprised you didn't catch that mistake, hawkeye ) who has a similar argument as Ohio State did last year....along with a host of 1-loss teams that all can make a case for a spot.

Nightmare scenario for CFP:

Alabama loses a close game to UGA in SEC Championship.
Miami loses a close game to 1-loss Clemson in ACC Championship.
Wisconsin loses a close game to 1-loss Ohio State in Big 10 Championship.
TCU beat Oklahoma State in regular season but loses a close game to OSU in Big 12 Championship rematch.
Washington/Washington State win the Pac 12 with 1 loss.
ND wins out with one loss.

Now...all Conference champions except UGA have 1 loss. Alabama, TCU, Miami and Wisconsin were all undefeated until the championship loss.

Now you have one undefeated team (UGA), and a huge pool of 1-loss teams.

Georgia (13-0, SEC Champ)

Oklahoma State (12-1, Big 12 Champ)
Ohio State (12-1, Big 10 Champ)
Clemson (12-1, ACC Champ)
Washington/State (12-1, PAC 12 Champ)

Notre Dame (12-1, Independent)
Alabama (12-1, SEC Runner up)
TCU (12-1, Big 12 Runner up)
Wisconson (12-1, Big 10 Runner Up)
Miami (12-1, ACC Runner up)
Penn State (12-1)

For fun, throw in:

Marshall (12-1, CUSA Champion)
Toledo (12-1, MAC Champion)

In that scenario, I could easily see the CFP being

Georgia
Notre Dame
Alabama
Ohio State

Leaving the Big 12, Pac 12 and the ACC out of the CFP.
