Ah I see. Haven’t lived in WV for awhile so not too familiar with concealed carry laws there. But I think we’re in agreement he’ll get a slap on the wrist and (hopefully) learn from it.

The people who say “he (Pitts) is toast” I think are mistaken. It’s not like he robbed a store or even fired the weapon. It’s not even an issue he was carrying it’s just that it was on high school grounds. It was a dumb mistake but I don’t expect him to be “toast”. I think he’ll be okay as long as this is the end of it.

Also the way to early preseason Top 10 ranking I absolutely hate, honestly. But it’s hard to fly under the radar with a Heisman caliber QB with most his offense returning. Defense has a long ways to go even with returning experience and incoming talent but hey, Oklahoma made it in the playoffs with that defense so we may be okay.

31-28 good guys.

I think basketball this year. Our team still has a long ways to go but the rest of the Big 12 doesn't seem very intimidating.

I'm very excited about next football season, but let's wait to see how signing day turns out. There are some crucial verbal commits that we need to lock in. If we're successful then I think we can realistically expect 9+ wins out of this team.

Let's go Mountaineers!

This team has a lot of potential shooters. If they continue to progress and become a legit threat at 3 point range then things could get interesting for us. In recent years we've had a lot of guards but weren't able to consistently shoot well. This may be our best shooting team yet (especially from the foul line!). Really wish we had Culver this year to supplement Sags as a power forward. But getting Esa back should only improve this team. And Jevon Carter is a super hero.

24-7 regular season record. Winning on road will be tough especially since most games will depend on perimeter shooting and refs calling a foul every 2 seconds.

I think if Sills would have closed the year out with 3 or so more TDs he may have won. But James Washington is by far the best and most talented WR in the nation. And he had an excellent year to back it up. Kudos to him, he'll be fun to watch on Sundays.

I'm not excited about a 7-5 season but I'm not upset over it. Should have been 8-4 had Grier stayed healthy vs Texas and if VT and/or TCU could have went the other way in our favor, we're looking at a potential 9 win season with a completely rebuilt defense. The fact you didn't see this kind of season coming is what makes you (and a lot fans like you) so hard to be around. And you keep throwing the arguement "our best win in the past 2 years is Iowa State" like I give a crap about it. We won 10 games last year, but my bet is you were upset with that result too. It's difficult to put everything together when you're playing in the Big 12...and our program is not Oklahoma, or Ohio State or Alabama for that matter. So manage your expectations and quit being a whiny, depresssed child. Thank god people like you don't run this program with the mentality of burning everything down when it doesn't work right or else we'd be the Cleveland Browns of college football.

And to be clear, I'm critical of my Mountaineers. I don't live in this euphoric state and pretend everything is great. But I don't expect a 10+ win season every year either which is truly what being a realist is.

I can see why we were skipped by other bowls. If you were in charge of selecting teams for your bowl game would you really want an anemic WVU team that had a **** year without their starting quarterback who's best win for the last 2 years was against Iowa State? Utah will beat us. Might be close at half time but they will wear us down in the 2nd half because they have a great rushing defense, chugs isn't that good, our defense sucks, and Spav is our play caller. Don't waste your money

Dude, no offense, but you suck so bad. Again, no offense.

Your joking right? Mike Leach frustrating Saban? Saban has 5 National Titles, How many does Leach have again? HOw many conference champions does Leach have? How many 10 win seasons? He would frustate bc of Air RAid? How many titles has an Air Raid coach won again?

I said I liked the "idea" of Mike Leach frustrating Saban. I like the idea of anyone frustrating Saban & Bama. Hell, bring in the triple option to the SEC that'd be fun too. Lighten up.

Well our opening game might be Dana vs. Mike or maybe Mike brings in Dana to get the band back together...

I like the idea of Tennessee going after Mike Leach. If they can bring him &a his staff that would really shake up how the SEC operates. I'm salivating at the idea of Mike Leach frustrating the hell out of Nick Saban with his Air Raid offense. Also Mike vs Dana in the season opener would be amazing. Good chance we win too bc there's going to be a learning curve for them with that offense.

No way in hell Mike brings Dana to Tennessee with him unless he can offer over 4 mil as a coordinator (which is insane). Maybe Hal Mumme, but not Dana.

We definitely need D-linemen. For the 3-3-5 to function the nose guard has to be a pit bull with an attitude and a Miller and Ervin at DE; otherwise, it is not effective, as proven in the OU game. IMO, the defensive line is the weakest area of this team, so the recruiting should be totally focus on reinforcing those positions.

Are you paying attention to recruiting at all?

2018 Class:
Tyrese Allen DE
James Gmiter DT
Dante Stills DE
Alex Williams DE

Notable returning DL
Adam Shuler
Reese Donahue
Ezekiel Rose
Darius Stills
Lamonte McDougle
Jalen Harvey
Brendan Thrift (Penn St transfer - sat out this year)

An Australian punter? Check.

A white wide receiver with "deceptive speed" (Blue gold news said this and I always find it funny) Check.

Folks, we're building something here.

Okay, what about losing to Oklahoma every year in Big 12 play? Only beating Kansas State twice? Losing to Kansas? Losing to any team with a pulse? Oklahoma scoring on 6 consecutive possessions? This defense is far worse than 2012, our 4-8 season, even worse that year in the bug east where we went 3-8 in 2001

Alrighty I'd love to dive in on this.

2017 result vs Oklahoma: 59-31
-The Hard Truth: They were BETTER than us. As shocking as it may seem sometimes that happens. The best QB in the country behind the best OL in the country surprisingly does damage to even the good defenses. OU beat THE Ohio State in Columbus by 15 with Baker putting up almost 400 yds passing with 3 TDs. OU scored 62 points on Oklahoma State this year!!! Oklahoma State's offense could match them was the difference. Don't act like we were the only team they put up numbers against. Our defense wasn't that talented this year...accept it. And we were handicapped without Will Grier.

2016 result vs Oklahoma: 56-28
-We had 4 turnovers and they scored 21 points off of them. How can you possibly blame the defense?

2015 results vs Oklahoma: 44-24
-Same story. 5 turnovers with an awful Skyler Howard running QB.

Those are the only lopsided affairs we've had with Oklahoma. I could go on and on and on to defend the 3-3-5 but I'll sum it up as best as I can. The main reason we have some of these blowout losses is bc we lack the talent and depth. If you want to blame the recruiting that is much more fair of an argument than blaming our defensive scheme. You can revisit the highs of West Virginia football over the past 10 years and more than likely we were running the 3-3-5. But if you haven't paid attention to the past couple of recruiting classes then maybe you should. I think we're building something special for next season (and seasons to come).

Yeah, our 3-3-5 is so great and difficult to prepare for that va tech beat us without ever seeing it and they had a freshman quarterback playing in his first game. Virginia tech is not a great football team. It's a **** defense that only works against inferior competition.

You make it sound like we got our ass kicked. We lost by 7. It was the first game of the season and we had opportunities to win that game. Considering it was the D first game without our 2016 starting 3 DL, starting 2 CB, and starting S from previous season and it took the entire first half for Will Grier to get going (reasonably so after sitting out almost 2 years) it's understandable that we didnt win. But you want to blame our defensive scheme? That's just not the right thinking.

I love Dana and Gibby as our head of coaching. Sometimes I can do without Spav (I actually enjoyed play calling more last season than this season) but overall he's fine. But to do away with the 3-3-5 is absurd. It's such a great fluid mosaic/hybrid defense that's hard to prepare for (kinda like prepping for a triple option team). The answer isn't to get 4 down lineman, it's to improve on the talent up front and develop experience, which is happening if you havent paid attention to recruiting. Our starting DL last year with Nwachwuku, Brown, Howard was great we just didn't have depth...it was a strong reason why we were successful on D. We lost a lot from last year's D and we're returning a lot of pieces next season paired with a strong recruiting class (maybe the best one in the past decade). Be patient...the talent is coming.

PS - not to mention veteran QBs like Mayfield and Rudolph will be gone which make our D scheme that much juicier when next season match-ups roll around

Our fanbase can be so delusional. We have rebuilding years, get over it and manage your expectations. The consecutive BCS bowls and 10 win seasons were due to playing in a trash Big East conference and special talents that don't come by every year. Some of y'all are spoiled brats. I'm happy with the direction of the program and where we're currently at with coaching staff. Be thankful we're not Tennessee (yikes) or schools like Baylor who are rebounding from serious allegations/violations and firings.
