We are 27-27 against the Big 12 since joining the conference. It obviously works half the time.

Ok ok. I'm back and will get started on cleaning things up. I will be moving off of Xoops but have some clean up to do first. I can't commit to a timeline yet for when I'll have things moved to a new platform but will keep the thread updated in the meantime.

First thing I'm doing is purging the user database of spam accounts that were created before I shut new sign ups down so that these don't get moved to the platform as well. Unfortunately there's no fully automated way to identify spam accounts. I'm starting with deleting those users that have never made a post but I'm finding a number of those that are clearly real, but apparently shy, users. If i accidentally delete any of these accounts I do have a backup and can restore. Just contact me at stanley.wvu@gmail.com

Welcome back Stanley. Hope you are doing well. Look forward to seeing your vision for the Couch.

still love me some big ol' Hostetler.

When I read that list, I thought of Hostetler, too. He deserves a nod just for bringing us out of that Penn State drought, as anyone who saw or remembers would probably agree.

Not looking anything up here but I do not believe Hostettler beat PSU. I believe it happened the next season with Kevin White in Morgantown. I remember being at that game.

Hostettler did get us back on the map though and took Oklahoma to the woodshed in his first game.

ESPN ran an article about how the national championship gave was boring and filled with fouls. How Gonzaga was in the double bonus with 10 mins left in the game. Well **** you ESPN, we have been living with that **** for years. It only matters when UNC plays. Take a look at the tape of us playing Gonzaga and listen to the commentators, never said a word. Its bullship, let the boys play

And, I forgot Konate for the year after next.

Also, West will be next year's Adrian.

something I didn't realize till the other day is Sags already has 53 blocks for his career. He is on tap to shatter the record especially if he gets some real minutes. Guy is going to be a difference maker if he continues to develop

Next year will be the best team WVU has had since 2010. Myers and Watkins not that big a loss. I liked PHillips game but he did have some costly turnovers in the last few games, and feel Knapper could be equal as replacement. Though going by highlights and word of mouth might be wrong. The one question mark will be who can take Adrian's spot. Culver not making cut really hurts here. In 2009 WVU got lucky with getting a 5 star guy like Devin Ebanks, and he was the difference maker in 2010. Team could easily make final four next year with the right draw but can't see team winning a National title unless Huggins somehow gets a one and doner.
It's after next year, when Carter and Miles are gone that WVU will be alot worse.

I like the "team" atmosphere. Getting a one and doner or someone like Shifino could really hurt this team

I've been around long enough to come to the realization that unless you win the whole championship in any sport, you finish with a loss and have come to actually understand that simple concept--maybe because I remember the really lean years of being a Mountaineer fan.

There are opportunities along the way for accolades, trophies, medals, whatever, but generally, you finish your season or tournament with a loss. That is hard on fans, but much much harder on the players.

This year, we finish second in the season and in the conference tournament and make it to the Sweet 16 to lose to a 1 loss Gonzaga team in an instant classic. Most programs would give an arm or a leg for that type of season in a conference like the B12. Still this doesn't seem to be enough for many of our fans. Let's look at the other "big time" finishes in the B12 this year.

Iowa State finished 4th in the conference, won the conf tournament and did not make the round of 16. A very good season with a nice accomplishment in the conf tourney.

Baylor got 3d, got bounced in the conf tourney and made the Sweet 16, only to get embarrassed.

Kansas won the season, fared worse than us in the conf tourney and were beaten by 14 in the Elite 8.

All four teams should be proud of their seasons. They each had outstanding ones. KState, TT, OSU, OU, UT and TCU would all gladly trade places as would 300 plus other programs.

If the players, themselves, want to be hard on themselves for some missed shot in a close game or a few bad minutes in a loss, that is understandable, but for anyone on this site or any other site or any other fan to have criticism of this team or this season, does not make sense to me.

You are entitled to your opnion, it is a free country and this is a message board after all, but I just don't understand it beyond the first few hours after being upset with a loss, because this was a great season. These young men have busted their asses and given what they had. They won 28 games and have been a top ten team all year. I love this team, as stressful as they are to watch at times, I can be nothing but appreciative and thankful that I got to enjoy this season--I watched every game and loved the excitement and anticipation of the next game all season long. Just being anxious, as a fan, to watch the next game is an amazing feeling. That is a minor gift. That, in and of itself, should be savored for the special thing that it actually is.

This team could beat any team on any given night, which is what I want out of any Mountaineer team in any sport. If you have put together a team that others dread playing and can and will test and beat you, what more is there? What more can we ask? There will be better teams and worse teams in the years to come, but this team had heart and guts and balls and whatever else. This was a great Mountaineer team that we should be glad we got to watch and enjoy. We should thank these kids for giving us something to be proud of, not complain about their imperfections. These young men made me even more proud to wear my flying WV and made me more proud to be from this state. They carried the banner as well as anyone could have asked them to, so stop bitching and give them a standing ovation, instead. They deserve it!

As an aside, for you folks that think we should have coasted into a NC this year, Gonzaga destroyed Xavier. Destroyed them. I have to disagree with the poster that said we had an easy path to the national championship, that animal does not exist. Anyone playing Gonzaga, does not have an easy path to anything. That team is very very good and had there not been a 5 plus minute review of a great hustle play by Nate Adrian, giving those 10 foot tall monsters a much needed rest, maybe that game turns out differently. Maybe. Maybe not. Championships and wins and losses can be just that close. That is why we love the sport. We were ever so close. But as a fan, I'll take the heartbreak every time just to watch my beloved Mountaineers keep striving and fighting snd grinding and trying.

^^^ THIS!

You are so right, every team ends with a loss except the National Champion and being the National Champion generally, more than not, means you will not be the National Champion the next season. Im proud of the team and always will be.

Jerks like Talkoption can continue to complain about every game and every play. Im not buying into their BS.
