LMAO sg44gold. If you don't think Huggins is a HOF coach then everyone should take your basketball opinions with a grain of salt.
The thing I noticed about the last two games; they've played very aggressive in the first half getting themselves in foul trouble. The second half comes around they have to play with less intensity. Also, a lot of missed assignments on defense toward the end of both games.
Don't forget that the last 2 loses came from top 10 teams needing huge comebacks in the last 7 minutes shooting lights out.
Like the above post said, keep things in perspective. They are 15-3, in the top 10, and arguably playing in the best basketball conference.

Good teams bounce back from bad performances. The Baylor game was bad. I don't think they shoot as poorly or get out rebounded against Texas Tech. WVU wins a close one hitting crucial free throws at the end.
WVU beats Kansas at home. No other explanation other than we have Kansas's number at home. Plus, they are so inconsistent this year.
2 - 0 for the good guys. Honestly, out of the next 3 games Texas worries me the most. They are great at beating our pressure defense which is our bread and butter.

When you shoot 31% from the floor, get out rebounded, and still find a way to win you're pretty good. That was a tough game to watch.

The Carter vs Young matchup is going to be fun to watch. Both are PG's and it's great offense vs great defense. I just hope the refs let these kids play. Otherwise they are going to dilute the intensity. FWIW, Carter will win the match-up.

RR has too much baggage at this point to coach anywhere but a low tier team. He doesn't exhibit the type of character that I would want leading the WVU football team.

I do think the zone read spread offense is much better than the air raid offense. But, I'll take Holgorsen as the head coach. His signature season is just around the corner.

BTW, we have a great basketball team. Time to enjoy that ride.

Just for discussion. Do you guys think Steve Slaton and Pat White would succeed in Holgorsen's offense?

I used to hold no judgement against him when he left WVU. We didn't really know the whole truths or half lies that went on behind the scenes that determined his departure from WVU. Therefore, I was never bitter about the decision he made to leave.

These allegations and the admission he had an affair makes him look like the problem. Egotistical would be the best word to describe him. The truth will always come out. And this makes the muddy water a little more clear about his character.

From a strategic standpoint the Air Raid offense makes no sense in most situations. It's not a good way to manage the game on offense or defense. Unless, you're in your two minute offense.

I didn't expect much from this game and the team gave much less than my expectations. They looked very uninspired. There's no excuse for that. With that said, I still watched the entire game. It took me a while to learn how to be a fan without emotions being involved.

WV illustrated said he was a projected 2nd or 3rd round this year. He must believe he will put himself in the 1st round with another year at WVU. It would be awesome for WVU to get a QB drafted in the first round. I don't think that has ever happened.

Regarding Bender - European basketball is very different from American basketball and is taught in way from a very young age. Europeans are taught fundamental and skill development. Americans are taught to win. Go watch any local youth league and you'll see 80% of the teams run a box and 1 style offense giving their best player most of the shots. Or, they will make 1 or 2 passes before a shot is taken by their best player (I'm talking about 8th grade and younger). In Europe they are taught to pass, set screens, move without the ball, and you should never have to force a shot. European basketball is a different pace. I wish more youth leagues would teach this style.
With all of that said, it think Bender just needs time to transition. American basketball is just a different flow that what he is probably use to.

I love this stat. Defense wins championships. You don't have to be the best shooter to score the most points.

I was born and raised in the early 80's. This was the start of the Nehlen Era. I was in college during the Rodriguez Era. Here's my history lesson on WVU football.
- We will average 7-8 wins most seasons
- We will have a few heartbreaking 4-5-6 win seasons
- We will have some magical 9-10-11 win seasons
But, your expectations should be 7-9 win seasons. It's the truth. It's who we are. We are a little above average. Accept this and you'll be a much better fan.
Holgorsen/Gibby is the best fit for this program at this time. You need stability to build a program and their tenure is a must.

In before; you accept mediocracy, you're not a true fan, you should never stride to be average.

Does anyone think Jimbo Fisher will leave FSU and take the A&M job? And what about Arizona State firing a coach for 7 wins to hire a coach who only had 7 wins. Tennessee just keeps digging themselves a hole. Who would want to take on that program with their delusional fans.

This is the mental toughness they lacked against A&M. They never gave up and the defensive intensity in the last 5 minutes was through the roof. Great leadership from Carter and Miles.

If Dana Holgerson was calling the offensive plays, would he run a naked bootleg on the 1 yard line with Will Grier?

You have Crawford, McCoy, and Pettaway in your stable.

I honestly think Spav lost Holgs confidence. I don't expect him to be anything but a QB coach for the Mountaineers next year if he doesn't part ways.

Good analysis MichaelJLucas. If Konate can stay out of foul trouble he looks very promising this year. His 10 foot shot from the foul line could really break down defenses if he continues to make it. His presence in the paint on defense will make our opponents pull up for jump shots rather than penetrate. What a relief to see Harler step up and make some shots. I could see him developing in to a Alex Ruoff type of player. Carter and Miles leadership is a must this season if they want success. I like how Carter is the general on the floor. He will set up the offense when necessary and push the ball when they have numbers. A good PG can make or break a team and they are lucky to have him. West and Allen will develop as the year progresses. They are far from their best. West switched roles this year and is settling into more of a 4 man rather than a 3. Allen is young and just needs the repetitions at this level. He'll have a couple of huge games this season. My concerns, this team doesn't remind me of a Bob Huggins rebounding team. Besides Konate they don't have any big/strong players position themselves for rebounds. We are really missing another BIG, Ahmad. This team is good, but have the potential to be great with Ahmad.

WVU 38 Texas 23

I have a feeling Texas is going to get over 200 yards rushing in this game. However, the D will hold them to field goals in the red zone and have at least 1 turnover. I also predict WVU will actually score a 2nd half TD (My friends call me MontaniRebel).

Can someone please explain to me what shale gas development and chemical manufacturing projects exactly mean? How is this type of business ran? How does this positively effect WV? What are the negative impacts? Are there regulations protecting the natural landscape of the state?

I'm not trying to spark debate, I'm genuinely curious.
Thanks,

I just scanned most of the comments in this thread and we have a bunch of Negative Nancy's. It's the first game of the season and most of the couch is writing this team off.

What I watched vs. Texas A&M- The first 10-15 minutes of the game they were very efficient. Making good passes, taking good shots, using screens effectively, picking up assignments on defense, and getting in position to rebound. As soon as A&M went on a run and took the lead the focus and fundamentals broke down and never returned. This is not a skill level problem. WVU's second string is almost as good as the first string (this is a positive, not a dig). This is a focus breakdown problem. They lost all confidence and looked deflated. Bob Huggins will fix this. This team is very talented, they need more mental toughness.
