6-6 is not acceptable, nor will it happen. We'll win 9 games at the least and go to the Gator at worst.

Oly, did you make those predictions just to get a rise out of some of us? Seems like you did. UConn will beat us simply because they're due? Yeah, that's logic. I'd like to think we'd win a National Title because we're due, but it just doesn't happen that way.

If we lose any games at all, it'll be Auburn, USF, or Cincinnati, all of which are road trips.

Our schedule is weaker by far in 2009. Just to point out-

Auburn hired Gus Malzahn to run their offense. They don't have the personnel to run the spread, we saw that this year. Auburn shouldn't be a tough win at all, but I guess you never know.

Cincinnati loses 10 of 11 starters on defense, and that will be tough. Dantonio was the defensive genius. Kelly is an offense guy. They might not have another defense as strong as any under Dantonio.

USF will be a very tough outing. I hope we play them early. In Tampa, Grothe's last year, probably for the league title. This game will be a must-win for both teams if they want to contend for the Big East Title.

Colorado is not a good team, and they shouldn't have beaten us in 2008. What's done is done, and we will get our revenge in Morgantown. Same thing with Pitt, except they're losing their top 2 RBs and a great MLB.

Wrong Marshallsucks. We had a shot at a NC in front of us last year and we even had one loss at the time. The pollsters are very likely to give it to us if we are undefeated especially with teams like Auburn, LSU and MSU on our out of conference schedule.

We only had the shot because everyone ahead of us lost. We lost one game early, and held on until RR blew it. I forget the number, but something like 8 or 9 different teams lost while ranked #2 in 2007.

Ryan has already jacked this thread! I'M REPORTING YOU RYAN!

I believe that we will improve on this season. The returning players should have more of a firm grasp on the offensive system, and our defense will be lockdown. It helps, too, that our schedule is very soft.

The other Big East teams are losing a lot of key players, and the league should be on another down year. Donald Brown, Mike Teel, Kenny Britt, Underwood, George Selvie, Tyler Lorenzen, 10 of 11 starters on Cincinnati's defense, (probably) Lasean McCoy, LaRod Stephens-Howling. Louisville will be starting a new QB. So it will be interesting to see how the league pans out. I think USF will be the preseason favorite, but we should win it.

No **** lol.

This is also why the Big East will have a tough time getting a National Championship. The voters won't put a Big East team high enough, even if we go 12-0 with a solid nonconference schedule and play a ranked team or two in the league.

(Don't give me crap about "oh, the Big East isn't good enough to have ranked teams, blah blah blah, sandy vagina". This was a terrible down year for the league, and every team but Louisville and Syracuse was ranked at some point, USF peaking for the league at #10 if you drop preseason rankings.)

Mike (Beckley, WV): If the either MWC or WAC were given a BCS autoberth, which league would lose theirs: the ACC (2-9 all-time, 1-3 last four years) or the Big East (6-5 all-time, 3-1 last four years)?

SportsNation Mark Schlabach: (2:46 PM ET) Neither one of those leagues will lose their auto BCS bids...

I don't think we have anyone in the Army AA game. The Under Armor game will feature a few, I think.

You folks go on and defend this guy if you want. Doesn't bother me that he isn't on our team.

If he's drunk and she's not, isn't that rape, since he technically can't consent to sex?

...unranked. That's right. Unranked in both polls, while OSU is #23 and #24 in the USA Today and AP, respectively. Bullshit. We beat them on their home floor by 28 points. They have a player out with an injury, but so do we.

You're right, of course. There is no room on this board for logic or rational thought. I should have known better. Stupid me.

Can't you just sit back and enjoy the big wins yesterday, and allow everyone else to do the same? For the first time this season, people aren't bashing Stew, the staff, or the team here at WMITC. Get the stick out of your ass, old man. If you don't want others to be happy about the bowl win and speculate on next season, then you should leave the site instead of crapping on any thread that hints at speculation, looking ahead, making predictions, and the like. It's going to happen whether you want it to or not.

Simply unbelievable.

This season hasn't been over for 24 hours and already we're talking about running the table next year...with a new QB who has started, what, two games?

And a bunch of freshmen who haven't even signed their LOIs yet?

Can't you wait until at least, say, April to start this kind of talk?

Do you honestly have to complain about everything? It's all speculation, we're all pumped about football right now. If you don't like it, don't read or post in the thread. That's common sense.

As for the topic, I think we'll surprise some people next year. Jarrett Brown will be the starting QB, no doubt. He is more of a passer than White was (although the latter greatly improved his throwing ability), and therefore better suited for Mullen's offensive style. We retain Arnett on top of bringing in a few of the nation's best wideouts. Devine will be back, or so I assume until I read otherwise in an article by a respected media outlet. We also have a few highly-touted RBs coming in. Depending upon the play of the incoming offensive skill position guys and how quickly they pick up the offense, our offense could be anywhere from below average to scary good.

On defense, we have nearly everyone returning. I don't expect any type of dropoff on D next year. We also bring in Finau (whose LOI reached WVU last week), who will give the defense the pass rusher they needed all year. West Virginia also gets a massive boost in the middle with the return of Reed Williams. The toughest task will be finding a replacement for CB Ellis Lankster (and possibly Brandon Hogan, depending on his current situation).

Our schedule next season is much, much easier than it was this year. Syracuse and Auburn both have new coaches. We don't have a top-tier I-AA opponent with a I-A caliber dual-threat QB on the sked. Louisville will be starting a new QB. Pitt will likely be without its top 2 RBs, McCoy (could declare) and Stephens-Howling (graduating). Here is a breakdown of the 2009 schedule:

Liberty - Win. It is Liberty, after all.
at Auburn - Win. New coach, new offense.
Colorado - Win. CU won't win in Morgantown.
Marshall - Win. It's Marshall.
East Carolina - Win. Pinkney is gone. We get revenge.
at Syracuse - I'm gonna call this one a toss-up. Doug Marrone was reportedly consulted by Oklahoma for help on offense. Look where that got them. He could have 'Cuse turned around by the halfway point of the year, but we'll have to see. The Carrier will more than likely be packed and loud.
at Rutgers Win. Teel is gone, as is WR Kenny Britt.
UConn - Win. Had us beat at The Rent, but couldn't hold on.
at USF - Toss-up. Grothe isn't going to declare, I don't believe. If he does, we will win this game easily.
Louisville - Win. New QB. Kragthorpe is really struggling in the Derby City.
Pitt - Win. We get big revenge for the last 2 seasons. This will be a trip to Morgantown that the Panthers won't soon forget.
at Cincinnati - Toss-up. This game will likely decide the Big East Title. I only wish it was at home. Turnovers will be key.

I'm gonna have to tape it or something, as well. I'll miss the entire game due to work.

I would suggest swinging by The WVU Torrent Ring a few hours after the game. You should be able to download it there via torrenting.

gobucks, that avatar is great.

I like our chances in this game, and I like our chances of going 2-0 tomorrow. If Ruoff is hot again and/or we have another shooter step it up, we should win the game. I've heard that OSU isn't a very tough basketball venue despite the fact that it holds over 19,000.

My prediction is 72-69 West Virginia, and we'll earn a Top-25 ranking in the new polls.

Pat is more athletic and a much better decision-maker than Big Ben, both on and off the field. I'm pretty sure that, if White were to jump on a motorcycle, he'd wear a helmet. What a dumbass, Roethlisberger.

I hope the Steelers don't draft Pat. Hate the Steelers. I'd rather see him and Super Steve back together.

Someone donate billions of dollars so West Virginia can get a NFL team!

Per MSNsportsNET:

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The way Bob Huggins sees it, if his West Virginia team can somehow pull off a win Saturday afternoon at No. 15 Ohio State then he won’t have to listen to a certain ESPN commentator complain about his team’s unspectacular NCAA Tournament resume.

“I told our guys that I’d like to beat somebody ranked so I wouldn’t have to listen to Doug Gottlieb talk about us not having a quality win,” Huggins said. “That kind of grates me.”

Gotta love Huggy

Merry (belated) Christmas, Kool. Good to see you back around The Couch. I will be pulling hard for the Sooners. I am so damn sick of hearing about Tim Teabag and the Gaytors. I hope Stoops runs it up.

As for the comment about OU not playing a real defense this year, I can think of 4 good ones they played, and they beat 3 of those teams. The only real defense Florida played was Alabama. LSU and UGA were terribly overrated; LSU gave up a combined 120 points over three games (LSU, SCAR, UGA), and Georgia gave almost 50 to the ACC's Georgia Tech at home.

But I digress. Beat the **** out of UF.

I wasn't aware of this until just now, but Mike Dent's career as a Mountaineer has ended a bit prematurely. He's missed the last 4 games with a neck injury, and will miss the bowl game. Kinda sad. I know the vast majority of us give him grief for the super-snaps, but it's disappointing to see a Mountaineer go down early. Hats off to ya Mike, and thanks for everything you've done for the program.

Mullen isn't a great QB coach, and Mike O proved it with these numbers here.

Ben Mauk isn't the world's greatest QB, and I wouldn't even say that he is NFL caliber. He did, however, have much better numbers under a different coach at Cincinnati.

2007 - Ben Mauk -- 3121 yards, 60.9%, 31 TD, 9 INT

He also had decent rushing stats for a pass-first QB, carrying 100 times for 376 yards and 3 TDs (long of 30).

I know that Wake Forest is far from being a hotbed of talent, but Cincinnati isn't much better. The vast majority of the talent in Ohio goes to Ohio State or Michigan.

Can't deny the numbers.
