Bahahahahahahaha!

I spent 5 years in Morgantown doing the exact same research and came to the exact same conclusion. Where is my grant money?!

Long term, this scheduling philosophy should be good for us. More eyeballs, more butts in the seats, more exposure to recruits, more money, better competition, more pollster respect, more branding, in the national conversation more with the talking heads, and games that fans can drive to.

Short term, you might bite off more than you can chew in any given season. The OOC teams might be looking at a dominating year and you might be weak and pick up a loss early, or maybe 2, ruining the season to some degree.

Clearly the current philosophy is to have good regional games in the OOC and let us not forget that the Big 12 teams pledged to improve their OOC's so as not to get shut out of the playoffs based on weak scheduling--that was a league mandate and not being able to drive to away games was a fan complaint.

WVU football in the Big 12 is doing what it is supposed to do for the league and the fans. It's OK not to like it, but we should at least remember WHY we are doing it. We may not even like WHY, but this isn't going to change.

Our reasonable, attainable, goal is to finish top half/top third of B12 every year with the ocassional magical year of maybe winning the league. Let's beat OU once before we get too twisted up about winning a National Championship. It could also be argued that if we couldn't do it in the watered down BE when we had our easiest path, we really shouldn't be worried about it now when we would have to beat an OU twice in one season to get to the Playoffs.

We need to re-learn how to enjoy our Mountaineers. This is like the old Big East with Miami and VT and a strong Syracuse and BC and PITT. Savor each game, don't get crazy about the big picture of any season too soon.

I don't see how we win a National Championship unless the B12 goes to 14 teams and 2 leagues or unless the Playoffs expand to 8 teams. I just don't think we can do it in a 10 team B12 with a league championship game--maybe in a few years if we get high quality depth. Until then, I am going to enjoy my Mounties and hope for miracles.

I agree, they've definitely got some skill position players returning. On the other hand, who's rated ahead of them that you'd move back? Saw a publication (sorry, don't remember where) that had them at 7-5 for the season.

Yep. I kinda thought the same thing.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think this will be a close game. Too much hype about the offense. I remember the VT game last year and Grier didn't have a very good game. If he is on target then we should win, but, if not, it could be a bad night, or maybe just a poor night. Equally important, the defense will likely impact the game more than the offense. I spend at least 3 nights a week reviewing last year's games and in general think the defense is a problem. I don't see how they improve as much as needed to be above mediocre with the same personnel. Maybe the new players will make the difference; I hope that happens!

I agree that if Will has a bad night, we could struggle, however, we should keep in mind that last year against VT it was his first game in our system and his first game after a 1.5 year plus layoff. Also, if I recall correctly, he had a bad first half and a pretty good second half getting us a lead that we lost or almost winning the game, or both, I forget which.

I have never liked us in opening games against good teams. We seem to need warm up games. I assume in early season games, player talent plays a premium in the outcome even moreso because the players haven't gotten into a groove with the system yet or with each other. So, I will assume Tennessee has a high level of talent within the program and will be very very tough.

Normally, I would expect us to lay an egg in this situation, but because we have a veteran offense and good skill on offense especially, I think we win. I would expect a close game. If our team is truly going to contend for the B12 title this year, we should win by a couple scores, but just give me the ugliest win in history and I'll be happy to start the season 1-0 with a W against Tennessee.

I wasn't at that game because I was out of state in law school and had to move heaven and earth to watch the game because it was not a big game to people in Michigan.

I remember when the stadium capacity used to be 65,000 and it would get overfilled--students just using ID for entry I suppose back before lottery entry and such. I have heard the comment many times that the stafium is the largest city in WV on game days and remember the attendance being claimed as 70,000. Back then they announced the attendance at every game also and if a good number, the crowd would roar.

I have no doubt that the game was a special memory for you 1818 and can't imagine why you would make any of that up.

I watched it on TV in Michigan and remember most of the day because Damons Ribs told me earlier in the week they would have the game and then in the morning said they would not, so I had to find someone with a satellite dish--the big old ones--who would go in on the gameday package with me because I couldn't sport the whole day college package on my budget.

I watched the game at a large apartment complex with a bunch of Michigan State fans who were watching MSU play away that day on satellite. I was the only WVU fan in the room. They thought I was a crazy person.

If MSU had played at home or at the same time as WVU, I would have missed the game.

So, yeah, I believe your story.

I could see us starting the season 9-0, having major buzz, being top 5 and losing to TCU at home, then OSU at OSU and then the gut punch at home against Oklahoma and going 9-3 being at the bottom of the top 25 or just outside going into the Purina Dog Chow Bowl and facing a hot (insert ACC team here) and coming out flat to go 9-4.

I could see us going 3-0, then 1-1 against KState and TTU and 2-2 over the next 4, being 6-3 with TCU, OSU and OU to finish out and being 7-5 or 6-6 with a bowl in sunny North Dakota.

With the offense being strong, and now having bodies on the D Line, leaving our secondary as the biggest question mark, I think 8 or 9 wins is reasonable.

So if Grier is better and Spav is better and our D is able to stop the run somewhat, then we get 9 wins or more.

I just can't tell if this team is complete enough to be top tier this year. I see certain areas of great hope and certain areas of big worry, which usually means middle of the pack.

I, too, thank you for changing it. Same here, every time I read it it grated on me.

You don't know the amount of times I wanted to contact a Mod to have it changed...

You complete me.

Apparently, WVU is the only school in the universe that has fans who put a disproportionate emphasis on how well the team fares. Ours are the only fans to treat its players badly if they perform badly. I'm not excusing the behavior of drunken, loutish fans because it is inexcusable, but didn't you have some idea that drunken fans who sit and watch poor throw after poor throw, might get frustrated and let you know? Especially if you are the QB who followed a series of very good QB's and were not at their level?!

It's like if Carrot Top got booed following Richard Pryor and George Carlin. Doesn't mean Carrot Top is the worst comedian to ever live, but he will never get the love of Carlin or Pryor. And he might get hit with lettuce and tomatoes.

All that being said, the restaurant deal is awful. Shame on the idiots who work there. If he was getting any good advice, he would have involved the police and the prosecutor's office. It sounds like he has admissions in written and video form. That conduct is a crime and I wish he had gotten some justice.

As far as him losing NFL success due to the stomach issue. . . negro please. Kid had a lot of grit and played hard and did the best he could with what God gave him, which was mostly grit and determination, it wasn't height or arm strength or accuracy or thick skin. Time to move on and shut your gob. Hopefully one day he can look back on his time at WVU with some degree of fondness and pride and realize he had a decent run and did a decent job of managing a pretty talented team. Hopefully he can take what he learned and put it to good use in his regular, non-playing life. Maybe he coaches, maybe he sells insurance, who knows? But I hope he can one day look back and have fond college memories like a regular college student does.

Now go home and get your f ing shine box!

Bob Hertzel says this is the year to 💩 Or get off the pot for Holgy.

What say you?

I'm not entirely sure the TCU comparison is fair, given their resources and location, but I do agree that this year is in make or break territory.
