ESPN has Carter ranked as the 11th best player in the NCAA. We'll see another top 20 player right off the bat Friday night for A&M

We have the 7th longest active streak of being ranked in the top 25, even longer than Duke.

I'm really hoping he's the missing piece. I figure they start Ahmad and West, then have a real solid backup in Harris. I think the one glaring weakness is we don't have a real big man, Bender and Routt are both slow. Kansas, Texas, and Baylor have very good 7-fters.

Just saw on 247 that we have the inside track on a high 4 star PF for 2019.
https://247sports.com/player/oscar-tshiebwe-88237
Crystal Ball predicts WVU 100%.
Not too bad.
Considering Next Years class has two 4 stars & One 3*
Derek Culver PF 4* 6'10" 230lbs Graded out as 94/100
Jordan McCabe PG 4* 6'0" 160lbs Graded out as 97/100
Trey Doomes SG 3* 6'3" 185lbs Graded out as 88/100
and the 6'10" project recruit out of a Florida
Things are looking good. Esa was a 97/100 4*
We get two more PGs next year with Knapper and McCabe, so Beetle Bolden can move to the 2 when we need points. Konate and Bender were either a low 4*/high 3* and Bender really can shoot. He played against good competition in HS, and excelled. If Huggins can manage to get the kid some confidence before his confidence is just shattered, he will get better. Watch his HS tapes. Kid's got a Dirk Nowiski type shot and moves really well for a guy his size. To me, he either looks like he's so far from home and feels trapped, or it's a being overwhelmed early, and losing confidence thing. Anyway, I think everyone agrees that Teddy Allen will be a force with time, and if we can get a couple more bigs to contribute, West can concentrate on being a 3 instead of rotating as a 4. If Wes can add some weight, he seems to me, like he's got some real potential. He is a good enough rebounder now, probably our best behind Esa. Just that funky left handed shot.. And the 6'6" D Hunter looks like a scorer that just needs some time to get used to playing. Problem is, he is a Junior this year. Anyway, that's how i see things.. Looking up. We'll get better as the year goes. We are going to be a vastly better team late in the year than we were playing TAMU. I see 20-23 wins this year, with some really exciting players coming next year. Opinions?
(sorry for the long post)

I could handle a loss vs UVA knowing we are gonna get hammered inside and in trade I will take 1 Pitt beat down.

Damn, just watched some highlights of Culver at Brewster, man he looks solid, 6-10 with good build, Seems to have excellent vertical, and moves so fluidly for his size. He is going to be really good. Haven't seen his jumper but really wish he qualified this year. He would definitely be starting over West or Harris.

Here's something that I found pretty telling. I keep hearing about how good this Marvin Bagley III is, so I decided to do a side by side with Jevon to compare overall stats. Keep in mind, Carter is a 6'1" PG, while Bagley III is 6'11".
OK, first number is Jevon. Second number is Bagley.
Points per Game - JC 19.4 - MB 22.0
FG % - JC 44.6% - MB 60.8%
3FG % - JC .40% - MB .29%
FT% - JC %92 - MB %61
Rebounds per game - JC 5.1 - MB 11.2 (this one is cool)
Assists per game - JC 5.5 - MB 1.6
Turnovers per game - JC 2.0 - MB 2.2
Blocks per game - JC 0.5 - MB 1.0
Steals per game - JC 4.5 - MB 0.7

So, the guy getting all of the hype, the guy that's 10 inches taller gets only twice as many blocks and rebounds. Jevon has the ball in his hand every play, yet averages less turnovers. Jevon is averaging almost 4 times as many assists, and is averaging over 6 times as many steals. Guys, even taking into account the different positions and size, Carter is a WAY better Player of the Year candidate.
Sorry about the long post, I just thought this might give Mountaineer fans some ammo at the water cooler.
thoughts?

If you aren't watching, may want to check out KS vs WASH game. Looks like KS may get upset.

And FLorida loses at home to the powerhouse Loyola-Chicago
Ramblers?

Everyone already calling the league for Kansas again, I don't think they match up that well against us honestly especially with Mason gone. We always play well against them with the one exception in B12 tourney 2 years ago. I really want to be the program that ends the streak, and it's possible this year.

And Huggins wants that big bonus for beating Kansas ... Tickets for most games can be as little as $6 on stub hub...Kansas tickets are available now... This is another fun team to watch... the Miles/Carter show is worth the price of admission ~ and if Sags can stay in the game it's an added bonus.

WVUGAME.com 1-800-WVU GAME or Stub Hub...

I just realized we play UVA, Pitt and Kentucky all this season...if only we'd scheduled Maryland and Ohio State too.

Right, watched a couple of Kansas games so far, if Mykhailuk and Grahm are missing the threes they will lose. Newman doesn't look that good, and Preston has been out due to investigation. There big man isn't really a post up guy. The teams that could be tougher matchups for WVU are Texas and Baylor.

It just goes to show that good teams can lose to anybody on any given night, even teams they should beat handily.

I'm actually glad everyone like Jeff Goodman and the rest of the ESPN Bozos are sleeping on WVU, and basically everyone else in the conference and already anointing Kansas the champs. We don't know much about the conference yet, but you could argue that 8 or 9 teams from the Big 12 should be ranked presently, and somehow sports writers think there is one clear-cut favorite to win it. I am not saying I think there are 8 or 9 possible contenders, but I think Kansas could see more losses this year than they have in a while opening the door for a number of teams to win it.

There are around 7 or 8 teams that at this point, i think, are capable of winning the conference. The first half of the conference schedule will show us a lot. But there are quite a few teams that have the potential to win.
