ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME??? That is twice that WVU receivers have been screwed despite absolutely killing every other finalist in statistics. Good Lord.

JW had more yards. Better team. More wins. If Greir did not get hurt, maybe Sills would have been more productive last 2 games. Oh well...

The better reciever won. I love Sills, but that kid brings a full arsenal of speed and skills.

I didn't figure he'd win after Steddy B got passed up after 25 TD receptions in a season to be quite frank.

Sills is good, but the boy didn't wan't to catch a cross-route where a hit was inevitable. He needs to pump the biceps some, because his ball got raped a few times.

Is that 0 for 3 finalists from WVU?
I can't remember if Stedman Bailey was a finalist. But I saw that someone said he was. If I'm being honest, I didn't think Sills stood a chance. Hell, I didn't think that he was even the best receiver on the team, imho. KaRaun White seemed to be the better receiver as the year went on. But I do, however, think that Stedman should have won that award, and there is NO doubt in my mind that Kevin White was by far the best College WR that I have seen in a while. Guys literally would grab him and tackle him to keep from getting by them. Hell, I'm pretty sure that he drew 7 pass interference penalties against Baylor, add that up, that's 105 penalty yards in addition to the 8 receptions for 132 yards and 2 TDs that he was credited for. I've always though that PI penalty yards should be added to the QBs passing stats, and the receiver's receiving stats. So he was responsible for 237 yards. That wasn't too far off from the rest of his season. I wish I could find somewhere just how many pass interference penalties were called on guys covering him. It had to be close to a record. Just think about that for a second, the kid caught 109 passes for 1,447 yards, and a **** TON of PI yards. My guess is that he drew an average of somewhere close to 3 per game. That is another 540 yards of offense that were all him. Also, the VAST majority of those were him streaking down the sideline or in the end zone with a sure td being taken via being tackled. Stedman had better overall numbers, but only if you don't take into account what Kevin got just because people couldn't cover him and didn't want to give up the sure TD. I know this is long, but here is how our 3 finalists stack up during their Finalist seasons. and just for shits n giggles, I added a few more for comparison at the end. Thought this would be interesting.

Name - year - Catches - Total - YPC - TDs

Kevin White - 2014 - 109 - 1447 - 13.3 - 10

Stedman Bailey - 2012 - 114 - 1622 - 14.2 - 25

David Sills V - 2017 - 60 - 980 - 16.3 - 18

above are finalists, below are to compare to.

Tavon Austin - 2012 - 114 - 1289 - 11.3 - 12

Gary Jennings - 2017 - 94 - 1030 - 11.0 - 1

Shelton Gibson - 2016 - 43 - 951 - 22.1 - 8

Ka'Raun White - 2017 - 58 - 978 - 16.9 - 11

I think if Sills would have closed the year out with 3 or so more TDs he may have won. But James Washington is by far the best and most talented WR in the nation. And he had an excellent year to back it up. Kudos to him, he'll be fun to watch on Sundays.

Only THREE finalists were chosen ... and Sills was ONE of them.

Damn Proud!!!

Have some perspective people.

PS - Alabama couldn't cover Kevin White either.

It's awesome he was nominated, and it's good for the brand, but I agree that Washington was the best receiver in the country this year, but happy that we still have Sills in good company, hopefully Grier stays and he can build on this performance next year, and get close to Steddy B's record.

I think he was in the top 5 without question. Not the top one. Had a great year.
