Interesting on Keith Jackson's death. I was in a very good local restaurant owned and run by some younger brothers. The primary brother said to me yesterday, are you familiar with that guy, and I had the opportunity to enlighten him a bit. I certainly didn't agree with all of Jackson's biases (and we all have them), but he was far better than most of the broadcasters/analysts today. The owner was appreciative of learning a bit about Mr. Jackson.

Oh, and by brothers I do mean biological, even though it is a Jamaican restaurant (and exceedingly good too).

Hal Greer, 82. Huntington native, Marsha (College, pre-University) grad, first African-American to play for public university in WV. NBA Hall of Fame. What I remember most is him shooting jump shots for free throws.

Despite the fact he played for the Syracuse Nationals of the NBA his first 5 years out of college.

This is incorrect. West Virginia State was an all black plubic university and had a basketball team early on.
Earl Lloyd, from WVSU, was one of the first African Americans drafted into the NBA and was the first to actually play in 1950.
Hal Greer was the first African American to play for Marshall.
The state of WV has a surprisingly rich basketball history.

The Syracuse Nationals became the 76’ers in ‘64. They are the same franchise.
