Hey, it's the offseason. The time when fans rip out other fans' throats just for the pure entertainment value of it. With no games to watch, we've got to do something to keep our minds occupied.

Maybe it's just been a lousy day, but this got my blood to boiling. I was bored and decided to lurk around a few of the EPSN message boards (namely WVU's first, and then scUM's). I rarely post on the WVU board there, and even more rarely post anywhere else. It didn't take me long to be reminded why I quit going there (to the wolverine's MB).

I can handle the smack talk that goes on between the teams. Yeah, it makes me mad sometimes, but hey, that's the price I have to pay when I troll for scUM. But one of their members made a comment that got my blood to boiling. Apparently it isn't enough for them to bash our team; now their members are starting to bash coal miners.

Here's a scathing little reply I once read on a CBS message board. It was so good I saved it. Someone from Michigan had criticized WV and the coal industry, but I think this guy won the battle:

I'm always dissapointed when Michigan people talk down about folks
from WV. Last time I looked, most of our people work. We pay the
federal taxes that allow Michiganders to stay on unemployment for
(what seems like) life. While your governor begs more federal money,
we have a (small) budget surplus. Our governor doesn't have to beg.
While Obama forces the entire nation to pay UWA salaries, he and the
EPA work tirelessly to end coal mining. But America needs electricity
much more than we need GM or Fiat. There are other options for

He wasn't always that way, but when he hired Mike Brown, he allowed
Mike to convince him he was the next Vince Lombardi. Without Pat
White, Steve Slaton and Owen Schmitt, he is barely June Jones: an
offensive coach with a gimmick offense. You got a pretty good B-ball
coach from us, but our new one is much better. Thats OK, we wish JB
luck. As for RR, he's your problem now, but don't compare him with the
average West Virginian. The average West Virginian has more integrity
in their pinky than RR has in his whole body.

You can trash WV if it makes you feel better. I imagine
everyone in that needy, hopeless, entitled state needs something to
cling to as they wait for their income to come from the government. We
won't hold your attitude against you and will continue to work so you
won't have to.

I don't give no rat's ass what them fellers in Meechigan thinks about me or West By God Virginy in gen'ral.

I, for one, have a purty full life. Ever mornin', I wakes up in my shed, brushes my tooth with my fanger and sashays on out to my porch to set on the couch and sip some 'shine while the 'coons and 'possums runs in and out of the junk cars I got jacked up in my yard, most of which was made up 'ere in DE-troit.

When the little woman wakes up, she sets about doin' the cleanin' and the warshin' and cookin' up some vittles for me and ar 11 inbred children. Some of them's married t' each other, but I ferget which ones.

Then, after lunch, we sits around a-strummin' on ar banjos and a cloggin' up a storm until the likker runs out, then we limp on down to the still on ar one long leg and one short leg to batch up so'more.

I've never heard anyone say anything good about Michigan EVER.

As a side note..I was in Gabriel Brothers last night and some douche has pushed a cart full of Michigan crap right into a whole rack of WVU stuff. I wasn't sure if the cart, the offender or the entire store should have been lit on fire for this.

As an update, the idiot responded to me. Apparently I shouldn't be so sensitive. In my opinion, the guy's still a classless idiot. That would be like me going over to the HCC MB and making derogatory remarks about people who die in plane crashes. There are just some things that are out of bounds, but since most meechiganders I know have zero class, I shouldn't expect too much out of scUM's fanbase. I've visited there several times (my husband has family there), and the majority of their residents perfectly typify the phrase "white trash".

Hmm... I should've paid attention during my recent trip to Chicago.

While visiting Chitown last month, I was stopped by some guy in the hotel my friends and I were staying in. I was decked out in my WVU gear, and he asked if I was a WVU fan (yeah, he was a real rocket scientist to figure that out *rme*). I responded with a hearty, "I sure am! Let's gooooo, Mountaineers!" Then I noticed he was wearing a scUM hat. Since he was a big dude and since my husband wasn't there to protect me, I resisted the urge to ask him how that new coach was working out.

Not sure why I'm "blessed" with all these encounters, but I think it's because I'm a girl and they aren't expecting me to get so passionate about my team. It definitely makes our outings interesting.

Didn't mean to hi-jack my own thread, but hey, it's the off-season, and we've got some time to waste until September.

Back on topic, I checked back in, and they're still arguing over coal there. Guess that's better than facing the reality that their AD sunk a whole lotta money in a product that ain't living up to his expections!
