ESPN moved WVU all the way up to #14 in their rankings. Here's what they had to say:

"West Virginia, which was unranked in the last edition of the poll, checks in at No. 14 after coach-in-waiting Dana Holgorsen's offense looked explosive during spring practice."

"On the field, West Virginia's transition to coach-in-waiting Dana Holgorsen's spread offense seemed to be pretty seamless during the spring. Quarterback Geno Smith threw for 388 yards with four touchdowns in Friday night's spring game (albeit against the No. 2 defense), and Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey looked like big-play weapons. Whether WVU's progress carries over into the 2011 season might depend on what happens behind closed doors. Can Holgorsen coexist with Mountaineers coach Bill Stewart, who wasn't exactly ready to retire after the 2011 season? WVU must still find a No. 1 tailback and replace seven starters on defense. The Mountaineers are going to score a ton of points on offense with Holgorsen at the controls, which will probably be enough to send Stewart out with a Big East title."

Thanks to Holgy we are quickly getting back in the national title picture. Not to mention we're getting loads more respect.

i wonder where ohio state is? if they're ranked at all, it's a joke. they'll be 3-2 after the suspended guys get back. then they play big boy football and i'm positive they'll be rusty.

OSU is just below us at #15 in these rankings. Also below us is Notre Lame, Texas, Florida, TCU and VT (which makes me happy inside).

Amazing...

I keep wondering what could have happened with JB 2 years ago and Geno last year had we actually had an offensive coordinator.

We would have been undefeated, or at least 11-1.

holgerson couldn't have stopped jarret from throwing pics. he's a football coach, not a wizard.

But he would have designed a quick-pass offense to compensate for the woeful offensive line.

I don't like this move up the polls...I am going to have to decline the kool-aid at the moment.

Already said this somewhere else..

Oct 1.. Bowling Green gets demolished by WVU. Hopefully will be able to watch Sparty beat up OSU at home later in the day.

But regarding to the poll.. wow! Hopefully they just keep going up and up.

It's a good starting point. It lets us prove whether and how much we should move up. It's being overrated that's a killer.

My guess is LSU and WV will be considered a major game by the time we get to it even though we should both go in undefeated like last year yet last year was by no means considered a major game nationally.

It's nice that Mark Schlabach thinks highly of the team's potential, but I'm with Mounty. For now, it's a little too soon to have a Holgasm.

I know they will be a great team again, but I will wait to say when until after I see them play someone other than an intersquad scrimmage!
