And this is only the beginning.

Not all of the provisions have kicked in yet, and we are not yet getting taxed for the "value" of our health insurance plan.

This really comes as no surprise but, my current monthly premium of $643.49 will be increasing to $835 for 2016. So the "Affordable" Care Act had raised my premiums over 90% since 2013.

p.s. Thanks Obama.

So the good news first. There is actually a new option for 2017 on the exchange in WV. Which means I can select a plan with worse coverage than I currently have for a much smaller rate increase. And, that's about it for the good news.

My current plan will change for 2017 as follows:

Current premium - $835 monthly
New premium - $1,148 monthly

Just a measly 37% increase or...a 265% increase from my pre-ACA premiums.

My "Cheaper option" is to take a plan for $869 per month which QUADRUPLES my deductible and raises my maximum out of pocket by $2,000.

Absolute **** show.

Thanks Obama.

Now for the cherry to put on top of this **** sundae. Just found out that two of my wife's prescriptions will not be covered under the new plan. Sooo, I can now add another $700 a month to my "affordable" healthcare costs.

What's sad is, people that make $30,000 less than me have the same premium. You would have to make $40,000 less than me per year to get a lower premium. If I made $30,000 less per year Obama could go **** himself and I would just pay the penalty. The ACA is legalized extortion plain and simple.

Not trying to push buttons...but if the premiums keep rising does it make sense to shop around in order to buy directly from an insurance company like Blue Cross Blue Shield?

Again, not trying to argue. Honest question.

In WV there really is no shopping around. BCBS was the only choice on the exchange until this year. Care Source was added but, one of my wife's doctors is not enrolled with them and probably won't any time soon. Her other doctor is not in their network at all and, most likely will never be. So, I either have to take it in the ass and pay the increase or select a plan with less coverage and a smaller increase in premium. No matter what I choose next month I will be getting less coverage and paying more for it.

I've heard some good things about this health share. It is suppose to meet the Obamacare mandates, and be more affordable as well. Might be worth a look. I have Ins through my job, so I haven't had to shop around.

No effing way! This must be an anomaly. The ACA was suppose to bring down premiums, create a market place of competition and make affordable care available to everyone. Go back to sleep people there is nothing to see here.

Trump has said that he plans to keep the expensive parts of Obamacare: no pre-existing conditions, children on parents policy until 26, etc.

I wonder how much that will lower premiums? Are you ok with it if Trump does single payer?

Guess who gets a $300 increase to their "Affordable" healthcare monthly premium next year.

Silver lining: My awesome deductible remains unchanged @ $13,000!!!!

The Affordable Hatchet act in action. The insurers and medical monopolies get rich, and middle America slips deep into poverty. Don't you love when the doctor writes you a prescription for what you need, then when you get to the pharmacy, they tell you that your insurance rejected it. Then you have to go back to the doctor and have him check with the insurance to see what he is allowed to prescribe. Thank you Obama for your wonderful hatchet job of change! We shall ever be affected by your douchbaggery.

December 2017 premium $918
January 2018 premium $1204

And the media is now trying to tell me that Trump is going to cause my insurance premiums to skyrocket. I guess they don't consider a 300% increase in 4 years skyrocketing.

Yeah, that never happened before the ACA...

People have really short memories.

Health insurance was on an absurd upward trajectory in price and a downward trajectory in quality before the ACA. The ACA at least eliminated some of the more dishonest insurance company tactics and provided some cost breaks for people with modest incomes.

It is hard to blame Obama or the ACA itself for it's failure when the GOP is actively trying to make it fail. Threatening to not make payments required under the law, not advertising the enrollment periods, and not enforcing the mandate are three examples off the top of my head.

It is like claiming a car sucks because it won't run after you put sugar in the gas tank and drained the oil... and then blame the person who picked the car because you have no plan of another way to get to work and have to walk.

Yeah maybe so but, if i recall, this ACA thingy was to eliminate the skyrocketing costs. You forgot that part, right?

It's funny how my organizational healthcare and prescription costs continue to decline, PARTICULARLY in relation to inflation and my salary, yet so many come up with these sob stories.

Sounds to me like snowflakes that made bad decisions.

So, a nearly 300% increase in premiums BECAUSE of the ACA is a sob story?

What's your cutoff point on increases that they become legitimate complaints?

What other decisions Google I have made? I am choosing from the only plans available to me BECAUSE of the ACA.

I’m not sure what univers that animated figure is living in. I know absolutely no one who has benefited financially because of the ACA. Either they lose in pay raises, have more taken from their pay, or have a substantially higher deductible. I have some friends that have their own business restoring VWs. They always struggled with medical bills. They couldn’t afford to buy insurance, and are breathing easier now that the ACA’s tax penalties have been lifted.

Required under law? Really? Excuse me while I chuckle to myself.
