We were already going to offer him on defense but he wanted to go offense. If we are serious about a tightend you should probably take one every year. Plus whose to say he's not better than what you brought in the year before? He definitely has the better offers. Totally wrong about Strange. We just don't want to eat crow after he's now been noticed but much bigger schools at te. The d end from Weir prolly should of came and worked out. You saying we only offer the real deal guys is off. We only offer the ones named Wolfly or if other power fives have already taken notice. We should be the first power five school on in state talent. This is the best year ever with an easy ten who could really play there. Not even reach guys. Weir d end has 9 d1 offers and at 6'5" 245 is much more athletic than Donahue. Plus an invited walk on from Michigan for what it's worth. But he doesn't have a power five offer yet. Especially for how this class is this year, not worth a ****, it's insane not to TRY and take advantage of the best instate talent in a very long time. Martin is not comparable to Strange. He had no other p5 offers. While Strange has plenty. It's ridiculous. Plus we just offered a te two weeks ago whojust verballed to pitt a couple days ago. So saying we aren't recruiting te's isn't entirely true. But just because it's not a big need doesn't mean you don't offer the best athlete in the state. If he can't make it at te then they can move him to d like they originally wanted. They met with him weeks before he had the Ohio state, notre dame, Louisville offers. Not only is gibson's defense suck but his instate recruiting is a joke. Ya at least have to offer. If they wanna go to Ohio state, like it looks like the top three players in the state are gonna do, then ok. At least ya tried. We're always late on our own talent. They actually offered the two best sophomores in the state but not until, at least one, already had p5 offers. Most of the talent is in cabell county and they just don't wanna come here. It sucks but that doesn't mean we don't offer em. Oh well. Parkersburg has a history of sending kids to Ohio state. Just another in that line.

We don't have room for a TE this year. We have 3 coming back next year, all junior level or below. The 25-man scholarship limit is a killer. He is rated lower than Haskins and Banks, while higher than O'Laughlin.

Again, he knows the deal. Come and camp. Martin was offered by Rutgers before us. What did he do to show he wanted that WVU offer? He came and camped for it. And you know what? He got it. Strange may too, but he won't get offered without camping, and he shouldn't. He didn't get his OSU offer without camping.

If the kid from Weir wants a power 5 offer, come and camp! What is so hard about that? Williamson found his way up to Mtown. So did Martin and Richardson. Heck, even Nester came up for big man camp and he is already committed to OSU.

Shouldn't get offered without camping? Smh that's a joke. Different kids, different talent, get treated differently. The rankings don't mean **** to me but as soon as he verbals to osu he'll be ranked higher than them all. Rankings are all about camps. Travis Lee didn't go to any of these outside camps and wasn't rated. Well he verbals and is an automatic three star. At some point ya just gotta watch a kid and tell who is better. This should tell you how serious our coaches are about using them if they are happy with three on the roster. None having ever done a thing. This is the worst instate non offer I've seen in a long time

WVU cornerback target Nicktroy Fortune set to make his decision tomorrow. WVU is sitting pretty well with him. He would be the 8th overall commit for 2019 should he pick the good guys.

We are blue-shirting two 2018 recruits for the 2019 class, Tavis Lee and Angus Davies. so that would make 10 bodies counting toward 2019. Assuming we save 2-3 spots to deal with issues after signing day, we should have 12-13 slots left for the class.

We have names associated with most of the slots so the 2019 class is coming along.

Once again, thank you for the updates, love these. What are the early chirpings of the 2019 class?? Is it looking good, more of a filler class, etc? I'm out of the loop here. Would love to see some CB commits, lord knows our secondary needs help.

My opinion only, but the class seems to be shaping up pretty well. We don't have a lot of immediate needs that must be addressed, and this class should have a much higher percentage of high school guys than in years past. We might have close to 20 high school guys by the time we are finished.

Most of the guys that will be on the 2019 two-deep are already on the roster now. These guys from 2019 will provide depth at positions and most have the potential to develop into solid players in 2-3 years.

Already committed:
P Angus Davies (blue shirt)
DE Tavis Lee (blue shirt)
K Kolton McGhee
LB Lee Kpogba
LB Dwayne Grantham
DE Jalen Thornton
WR Deshon Stoudemire
WR Winston Wright
OT Donavan Beaver

Most likely to commit at some point:
CB Nicktroy Fortune (announcing tomorrow)
CB Marlon Devonshire
S Tykee Smith
S Amir Richardson
S Osita Smith
RB Tony Mathis

The rest is still a little cloudy. There are prospects, but there are too many unknowns at this point.

Thanks for the update. Seems a little thin at OL and DL, for that matter. Any insight on targets?

Yes, Fortune makes commit number 8 (10 counting the two blue shirts). So far, we have 5 on defense (DE Lee, DE Thornton, LB Kpogba, LB Grantham, and CB Fortune), 3 on offense (WR Stoudemire, WR wright, and OT Beaver), and 2 on special teams (K McGhee, P Davies).

We have room for about 12 more recruits right now, maybe 13 if things break right. I fully expect the coaching staff to hold 2-3 slots open for off-season movements, such as attrition or key NFL early departures (David Long or Colton McKivitz). I also fully expect us to be in the market for a transfer QB.

That said, here is how I see recruiting continuing on:

QB: We need a 2019-eligible QB. This slot will be filled either with a HS player or a JUCO. Too early to tell who that will be. Lot of time left. Grier having a big season can't hurt.

RB: We take one, I think. Tony Mathis has us in his top 2, between us and Louisville. The Cards have a small class this year and already have a RB pledged, so I like our chances there.

TE: none expected

WR: Stoudemire and Wright are in. We will look for one more. Yusuf Terry has visited and it is between us and Baylor. Isaiah Hazel is supposed to be here at the end of the month and his top school is home-state Maryland. Lots of others are in play right now. Not worried on this one. We will find a good fit.

OT: Beaver is in. I expect one more HS tackle. Zach Williamson from Spring Valley is in the mix, as are a few others. Hard to say right now who that will be. I also wouldn't be surprised to see us grab a JUCO tackle with the graduation of Yodny Cajuste. A lot of that depends on how the staff feels like Kelby Wickline, Tyler Thurmond, or Junior Uzebu can perform in the spotlight. A JUCO here would be a safe recruit.

OG/OC We might only have room for one here. We have lots of good interior guys on the roster coming back for 2019. Still pretty early to see one name emerging.

DL: Lee and Thornton are in. I would expect two more in. The #1 JUCO DT Savion Williams visited, but has since been offered by UGa and Tennessee. Who knows? Several others have expressed interest. I would hope that we try to repeat the 8-man rotation on the DL we should have this year in 2019. DL looks to be a strong area the next 2-3 years.

LB: Kpogba and Grantham are in. Keeping Kpogba in is priority number one. He is being courted by Tennessee. With only Qualls graduating from the unit, we might actually be done here. We might go after one more, and certainly would if Kpogba flipped, but we will see.

CB: Fortune is in. Aliquippa CB Marlon Devonshire is probably our top target. He seems to want to commit soon. If it is for the good guys, we are done unless we can get Joey Poter Jr. as well. He is not likely, but his main suitors are filling up their classes. We would take Porter regardless. He is that good.

S: We are looking at 4-5 guys right now for probably three slots. Tykee Smith is a bandit. Osita Smith is a spur. Amir Richardson could play multiple positions or even beef up into a linebacker. They are the three favorites right now. Kerry Martin seems to be leaning toward Rutgers. Others could be in the mix too.

Specialists: McGhee and Davies are in. We are done.

That's the run down as of now.

Def right about kpogba. We need him more than almost anyone in this class. It depends on how this season plays out I think. We are definitely wanting more than two corners. Amir Richardson is a WR unfortunately. Martin is definitely, right now Rutgers, and why not when they've shown him much more love. Sad thing is he'd prolly be our best qb recruit this year. Porter has zero chance at staying at corner. Even his dad has said this and if we want him we prolly have to offer Tomlins boy as a package deal. I hope Devonshire is wanting to commit since he's the highest player even remotely interested left on our board. i can't see how anyone would say that this class is coming together well. Been pretty disappointing really. I don't care about ratings that much but damn we should be a top 50 class every year. I know it's a long ways from over but it just hasn't went well. When the season starts I expect close to double digits in juco verbals. Just that type of year. If everything goes as planned this year, next years class should be much better.

Nicktroy Fortune lol what a name. He loves them rolling hills haha. This has to be a first. Maybe that should be our pitch to all the southern boys. We have zero "real" mountains but y'all are gonna love the mountains!

I guess if you grew up in metro Atlanta, Morgantown looks like Colorado.

I don't know about Martin. He might wind up at Rutgers. He might come here. I think the Showtime camp a week from Saturday will help clear things up. We have 2-3 spots for a safety and he is in the conversation still. So is Richardson.

I think this class has the potential to be solid. There are still a lot of good players out there with us in their top groups. I think Devonshire will commit soon. That seems to be the chatter. He will hopefully be commit number 9, 11 counting the blue shirts.

I can't see us getting anywhere near double digits with JUCOs though. I am pretty confident we take a JUCO tackle, and we will likely take two if McKivitz leaves early. We are looking at a JUCO DT in Savion Williams. We have offered a couple of JUCO safeties, but I think we have plenty of high school guys to fill that need. We have offered a JUCO guard who might be a take in time. I doubt we go the JUCO route at QB, as there isn't a lot to choose from this year. We might do a JUCO LB if David Long decides to leave early. We also might want a JUCO WR if the staff is not confident that this year's freshmen will be ready to shoulder a big load in 2019.

The JUCO number could be as low as 1-2 this year, but I really doubt it will exceed 5. I do think we take a conventional transfer at QB, however.

You just named a possible nine spots at juco lol but say you think 1-2. Expect close to double digits. We need juco help on both o and d line. Linebacker. They'd gladly take a couple juco corners since we only have SIX scholly corners and only had four until a safety moved over and a transfer case back. Wide receiver. And a juco qb would be nice. The hs class isn't doing it. Richardson is a wr. I know the coaches see the body and athlete but he doesn't have it on D and he doesn't wanna play it. He could be a Jennings wr plus our best wr in this class. This hs class is just not getting it done. Tavis def helps since he's breasted up to 245. Grad transfers and juco. Grantham is extremely underrated since he didn't go to any other camps and Richardson is better than his ratting as well but we haven't gotten a single guy even in the top five in the state smh. It's a joke.
