Ok ok. I'm back and will get started on cleaning things up. I will be moving off of Xoops but have some clean up to do first. I can't commit to a timeline yet for when I'll have things moved to a new platform but will keep the thread updated in the meantime.

First thing I'm doing is purging the user database of spam accounts that were created before I shut new sign ups down so that these don't get moved to the platform as well. Unfortunately there's no fully automated way to identify spam accounts. I'm starting with deleting those users that have never made a post but I'm finding a number of those that are clearly real, but apparently shy, users. If i accidentally delete any of these accounts I do have a backup and can restore. Just contact me at stanley.wvu@gmail.com

Welcome back Stanley. Hope you are doing well. Look forward to seeing your vision for the Couch.

Offering any help I can, I love reading this site throughout the year. I worked with the previous owner on a migration from XOOPS to other platforms so I already have some knowledge on the subject if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer. I plan on moving to bbpress. If you've done a similar database migration then your help would be super useful.

I really didn't believe he existed, like Tivita "Never Materialized" Finau.

As one of the faceless "shy" members Stanley alluded to, I've always enjoyed coming here and reading fellow Mountaineer's take on things. This site, through its ups and downs, has always maintained its humor and spirit. I came to this site for the first time when I was in the 3rd grade(which was way too young to be left on the internet unattended mind you) and now as a 3rd year student at WVU I still check in when I can. This place has a lot of history and means a good deal to a lot of us. We'd all love to see it hang around long into the future.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome back messages. Appreciate it!

I cleaned out a whole bunch of obvious spam accounts. I'm sure I've missed a lot but its good enough for now.

Next step is to start exploring how to transfer accounts over. As part of that, please check that you have a valid email address in your account settings. Pretty much every modern site in existence uses your email or phone number to allow you to change your password. The couch is more...retro. Yeah, we'll call it retro. As we move to a new platform, though, you'll need a a real address tied to your account so please update that. To do so, login and under User Menu click edit. Update your email address if needed and save it. That's it.

Hmmm. No, you're right. Sorry about that. I enabled it to let you do that but doesn't look like it's working. I'll see if I can get that fixed but in the meantime if you want to just send you a private message with your email address I can update it from my side. Sorry about that!

Stanley, I was able to change my email address by clicking on my username which takes me to my profile. Then by clicking the "change email" button under my display picture. The change email button is there along with "Edit profile, change password, avatar, inbox, and logout" buttons. I was then prompted to type in my password and the new email address of which I wanted to use. That was it. I got an email confirmation of the successful change immediately after hitting submit.
