Nick Kwiatkoski a Safety...I would add more detail but I couldn't find anything on Scout or Rivals about him. Or Google for that matter.....I'm really hoping that these kids that are not on the radar make a big impression this coming season and get some love from the main stream sites. (Rivals, Scout, ESPN) Other wise our recruiting class is going to be ranked 50th and when the prospects hop on the sites they are going to think our recruiting has severely dropped off.....

IMO!

Bethel Park safety Nick Kwiatkoski, who will be a high school senior this coming season, has committed to West Virginia.

Kwiatkoski, 6 feet 2, 215 pounds, also had offers from Boston College and Bowling Green.

I think the coaching staff is targeting some diamonds in the rough who are flying under the radar. All these kids we have so far seem to be very solid kids who become backbones of a program. A 10 win season should get us some high profile quality athletes by signing day. Stew may be getting tired of some of these premadonas that never pan out on the football field.

Again, no information out there at all.

I have no clue what the coaching staff is doing. Targeting diamonds in the rough is one thing, but targeting players not even on the radar of national recruiting services is an entirely other thing.

THey have brought in 4-5 star guys the last two years. Do we all think that every single coach all of the sudden said "what are we wasting our time chasing good players for? Let's only get crappy ones." Look at the 4-5 stars we have gotten the past two years. Only 1 I know of has panned out (Austin). The others have quit, didn't make the grade, or are leaving for other schools.

I'll admit, it looks a bit concerning too at times, but I see programs like Wisconsin, PSU and a few other bigger programs in BCS conferences that are doing the same thing right now and are ranked lower than us. Until LOI day, nothing matters anyway.

How many four and five star recruits did we get the last two years? Three total.

Thanks for admitting this is concerning, though.

Actually its 12 total from 2009 and 2010. Only 3 from 2009 are still with the team. Compared to 8 from 2003 to 2007 under Rodriguez. Many of those either never played at WVU (Gradkowski) or washed out (Gwaltney). The overall rankings say that recruiting has improved tremendously in the past few years. All of this is based on the Scout.com rankings. Obviously this is a byproduct of winning, considering we don't put a ton of guys in the NFL every year.

Also, our talent evaluation must be excellent if we can consistently win with 2 and 3 star recruits and a sprinkling of 4 and 5 star guys. I trust the coaching staff with whomever they target and sign.

I just wonder how much all that we disagree with dealing with recruiting has to do with these paid sites that are making a killing off of exactly what we are talking about. They want us to talk about recruiting stars and what not...and check out their site to see if they have one guy ranked higher than the other. I know it has been said on here before, but before these sites started realizing the big bucks that could be made on recruiting, we were all completely happy waiting to see who showed up on campus and seeing if they could play or not. It was few and far between that we even knew, let alone cared much about how good a high school player was unless we happened to see them, or know them personally. I think we've become part of the system that they want us to. I am ashamed to say that I am just as guilty. I feel this urgent sense of knowing that WVU is going to be incredible based on recruiting. I some times wish I were ignorant of it all again. I didn't even pay attention to this stuff until after we started getting good with Pat and Steve.

I also want to say that I am sorry that I have said harsh things about anyone or been sarcastic. Don't need to be that way with people whom I don't even know outside a screen name...let alone another Eers fan. So, I apologize guys.
