What's wrong with recruits? Don't they realize that WVU is a great place to be? According to Rivals, WVU is 28th in recruiting this year, when they signed up 7 players:http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.co ... tent.asp?CID=1216784#rank

Teams ahead of us included Georgia 25th Oregon 21st Alabama Arkansas 6th and MS State.

The Big East led all conferences with 7 teams in the top 30, with 1 in the top 5:

St john’s 3: Louisville 10 Syr 16th geor 17th Pitts 18th Rutgers 23 WVU 28th

The thing that gets me is that we are out recruited by Rutgers, St.J, Georgia, MS ST, Alabama and Oregon. Last time I checked none of these teams has done crap lately in their own conference (except St.J) let alone in the NCAA. I know Huggs knows what he's doing and I am excited about the recruits coming in. Just makes me wonder why these teams do better than WVU in recruiting.

we are getting out recruited by Rutgers. They can out recruit us all they want. But we will beat them.

I would say it is because sites like Rivals put these arbitrary numbers or stars on players. Most of these guys are similar in talent with the exception of the top 20-30 guys. It is all about how they are " coached up", fit into a particular system, and the desire they have to improve. Take a guy like Gary Browne. He is 0 stars according to this site. Is it because he isn't very talented or little is known about him because he spent most of his time in Puerto Rico? I will say it's the latter. Keaton Miles is a baller period. He was somewhat overshadowed by playing at the same school as 5 star LeBryan Nash so I think that detracts from the rating he received.

I'll take Huggs' opinion on these guys over any wannabe at a recruiting news website.

My opinion is that the very top recruits are a little diva-ish and don't want to grind out the kind of defense that Huggs demands. They'd rather be wooed by Calipari than screamed at by Huggins.

Huggs takes the 2nd tier recruits and coaches 'em up. Nothing wrong with the 2nd tier guys. Difference between Huggs and Beiline is that Huggs will also grab a few top tier players as well.

28th in the nation? I'll take that and Huggs abilities.

I agree that most top-tier recruits don't want to put the work in that Huggins demands. Do we really want a bunch of one-and-dones anyway?

I agree with WeirtonZoo. There are so many basketball prospects out there that not every recruiting site can see every kid play.

Gary Browne may turn into the greatest 0-star recruit ever.

I think you hit a big point, eer_4da_beer ! Huggins values recruits that take pride in their defensive play. Not many of them exist, so it's important that Huggins gets that out of the way first thing when evaluating recruits !

If anyone's to blame, I guess it's the high school coaches, who don't stress defense enough to these guys when they're young. It's all about being flashy and showing off your stuff. That's too bad, because the kids are missing out on a whole different aspect of the game of basketball.

I have to admit we do get out recruited or so it seems when it comes to the top tier athletes. One thing though I think in 2-3 years we are going to be really really good, if all of the kids stick around and we don't have any more Dan Jennings. We will have a TON of depth. Next year we will get what two more scholly's with truck and kj graduating?
