apizzle,

I hear you, but out of all the guys that transferred out, only Shuler was going to see much playing time this year. Word is McDougle wasn't going to play anyway due to rehabbing his shoulder. Losing him for 2019 and beyond will be felt, but 2018 wasn't going to matter for him.

Having said that, I'm cautiously non-pessimistic about DL and CB. If we can avoid any more injuries, I like the DE rotation of Rose, Donahue, Dante, and perhaps Robinson from Clemson, with Darius, Thrift, and Bam Bam Bigelow at nose. Throw in Pooler and Wolfley for a series here and there and that is a serviceable 9-man rotation up front without having to use Gmiter and Allen. CB looks more solid than last year, with Bailey, Long, and Mahone on one side with Washington, Fisher, and Pitts on the other. Everyone is one year older in the system with a transfer senior there. It won't be the 2015 D-backfield, but I think it can be serviceable. I think both units are pretty legit upgrades over last year's models, and last year the D kept us in every game but OU and OSU. Mayfield and Rudolph are gone this year.

LB is a little worrisome, but I think Long and Tonk will thrive. The Sam LB will be interesting, but it was last year too. All the D needs to do is hold serve. This bunch is at least capable of that.

Hmm, seeing it spelled out here makes me feel a little better, I'm really looking forward to seeing if Pitts can take a jump up, he looked pretty damn good towards the end of the season, and if he can step up, that would do wonders for us. A 9 man-rotation is important, we can't go in with just 5 people in the Big 12 and expect them not to fatigue with all of these high octane offenses, I'm just hoping we can get a little more pressure this year to take some pressure off our secondary.

Hopefully you're right, I'd love for this defense to take a step up from last year, because our offense has the ability to light up the score board on anybody, I think we'll find out a lot about us after Tennessee, I know they're reeling a bit, but it'll be nice to see how we look in an opener. Grier won't have a half of rust either, and we saw what we did to Tennessee last time he played them when he was with Florida, I'm a bit more optimistic now, but I think cautious.

On top of that we should be better at the QB two deep. Nice to know if Grier gets banged up, there's actually someone to turn to. I like the idea of being able to sit Grier against a lesser opponent, if he was to get banged up in a previous game. I hope Allison can be that guy for us. We haven't had that for a long time.

Personally I think Pitts will be a stud, as good as Worley. I think the first 11 will be good and if Dante Stills is a beast right away then we will be good on defense. The worry is that after a few injuries we really again have no depth and with 11 Power 5 games instead of 10 we will prob. by in a bad spot toward the later part of the season. ESPN FPI had us at 6 wins last year, and we won 7, but if Grier didn't get hurt prob, would of had 8. I think 8-4 is realistic for us, 2-1 out of conference and 6-3 league play. Though still early to say without seeing how preseason goes.

Yea I feel like we are overlooking the defense. I mean who in the nation wouldn't want David Long right now? We don't have to be amazing.
