Temple is in talks with the Big East about joining the league as early as 2012, sources confirmed Wednesday. The New York Times first reported on the discussions to add Temple in all sports.

In possibly turning to Temple, the Big East would be inviting back a member it kicked out in 2004 because of under-performance. Temple, however, has had a resurgence in football as a member of the Mid-American Conference in recent years. The Owls also would provide a huge boost for the Big East in basketball as well.

But there could be one snag to an immediate deal. Temple's exit provision from the MAC calls for a two-year waiting period and $2.5 million withdrawal fee. A source said that Temple has reached out to the MAC to discuss its exit provisions, adding the league expects the Owls to honor the terms of their agreement.

Irony: The Big East didn't want to let WVU out of its 27-month commitment, but apparently has no problem with Temple begging out of its agreement.

Roll on, Meatball, roll on.

Maybe they should just merge with the MAC. No exit fees, no waiting periods.

So, what do you think the damages would be for Temple to leave the MAC early? Somewhere between the cost of two kegs of beer (domestic) and a used Ford Fusion is my guess. Of course, that is on top of the $2.5 million exit fee.

There are four constants in life...

Death, Taxes, Pitt sucks and Temple being awful.

We just forgot the fourth as we haven't had to put up with them in eight years and thankfully won't have to again now.

Come on, just because football is irrelevant at Temple, doesn't mean that Temple isn't better than the linguini swimming in meatball's marinara sauce. Can't be any worse than SMU, can it?

In my four years at Temple, I assure you that, while this is big news on campus, walk off campus (figuratively, not literally - that would be highly dangerous) and not a peep. Just like meatball - leave his orbit, and it's silence..... and yes he has enough of an gravitation field to have orbiting objects... (basketball schools, of course).

Between this and the CUSA-MW merger...at least the ACC know it will be better than at least two conferences.

Tells you all you need to know about why WV left the Big Least. Wash DC sportswriter-"Temple will replace WVU in the Big East. Not really and equal trade." LOL

Them and their 50000 empty seats. Ask any Philadelphian about Temple football and watch the puzzled look.

Seriously...I laughed out loud when I saw this on the ticker last night.

They sucked so hard we kicked them out of the Big East in '04....and now the BE is asking them to come back?

Perfect example of the 'ineffective leadership' of the conference.

You're paying too much, give them a case of Keystone and a 1982 Chevy Vette, Chevette that is. And that's for Meatball to wallow and cruise around in. I love them having to give the MAC 2.5 M of the money they never paid us.

Turns out Temple will have to pay another $2.0 to the A-10 for its other sports. But, it looks like there will be an announcement tomorrow.

Also, eer44fan, an old Chevette (or, as I called them in high school, the "Baby Vette") sounds about right. Of course, back in the day I would have been happy to have a Baby Vette. My first car was a 75 Pinto. Fortunately, it was not the exploding version.

Again, I have to say this. The hypocrisy of this defies belief. The BE "steadfastly" refused to let WVU, Pitt and Syracuse out of their exit agreements (we had to file a lawsuit), but when the conference gets in a bind, they turn their heads while Temple apparently does exactly that.

Agreed, and the BE had plenty of warning that WVU was intent on leaving July 1, 2012.

eff the big east - let them have a second rate football and basketball program.
Why are we even worried about them and the big east.
