I'm surprised you're not more concerned about this, Stanley.

Oh I'm concerned. There's just not much that we can do so I'm not sure what to say. If I came across as dismissive earlier of concerns about radiation from Fukushima that was not my intention. I was just railing against people that create fake 'science'. The real stuff like in the stories you're posting is scary enough!

I have a coal fire, I put it out and then clean and filter the coal and go on with making electricity. That's all I know. Ready to go in a day or week, not hundreds of years. Cheaper, too.

No two headed anything. Another bonus.

And I am much more interested in what ZWAAA has to say.

You, on the other hand ...

What do you do about the mercury that belches out across a HUGE swath of land and ends up in lakes and rivers? With coal we effectively destroy the environment slower but over a much larger area. That is a great selling point right there.

Containing radiation equivalent to 14,000 times the amount released in the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima 68 years ago, more than 1,300 used fuel rod assemblies packed tightly together need to be removed from a building that is vulnerable to collapse, should another large earthquake hit the area.

With all due respect. To compare a breech of 2 metric tons of enriched uranium to mass of enriched uranium somewhere between a softball and a basketball and then putting a large number around it doesn't do good justice. That is like saying that a coal fired plant emits 14,000 time more mercury in a day than a campfire.

Add to that the Hiroshima bomb was a fairly clean bomb in that radiation released had a much shorter lifetime. I also think that the threat to clean-up is a little romanticized. A lot of the percentage of the radiation could be made safe by a few inches of concrete. There is indeed some nasty stuff in there but by mass and trouble it is relatively small.

This is different than Chernobyl in that the explosion of Chernobyl spread dangerous fall-out over a prohibitively large area. This should be better contained.

The concern is a runaway reaction, that would cause a full meltdown like Chernobyl.

Hidden gun panel rules in Obamacare are the key to the Trayvon / Fukushima connection.
