Had a good day bowhunting today in Alabammy. A bachelor group of 5 came by my stand. The big boy was last. He will now reside on my wall forever.

Great job Proud. Any chance you green scored him? He looks to be a rock solid 100 class buck, good mass and pretty good symmetry. Great width and height too. Looks a great deal like an 8 I popped a couple years ago. Based on muzzle length and width, height... I'd say the buck is absolutely 3-1/2, but probably 4-1/2. I'm always happy to see someone do well on a good buck. It's a great feeling isn't it? Lasts for months too. Go get another one!

Thanks willy. Haven't scored him. Everything was a blur after getting him last night. This is my 1st mountable (in my book) bowkill. Seen some out of range, but not close enough to shoot. But he's the best one I've taken. Thanks.

Where in Alabama did you hit a Buck that big ? They are few and far between down here in the Delta. You need a good boat and lots of swamp hunting experience to nail one. Great Job!!!!!!!!!I`ll be sure not to post my dog size trophy buck when I do get him...thanks LOL

Redstone Arsenal.....an Army post next to Huntsville. I've never killed a deer with a bow close to this size in 40 years of hunting. It's my 15 minute moment I guess! Post your buck, post your doe, it ain't easy with a bow.

I ain't even been in the woods yet....just now getting what I would consider cold enough.

Plus, since I moved this spring, I really have no place to hang/skin one. That, plus I just haven't had time. Hopefully I can bag a couple in WV this season.

Thanks. I dropped the head off at the taxidermy yesterday. He eyeballed it and said it might go 120 also. I don't know, it's 200 to me. I don't know much about scoring. But I know I've spent my share of boot leather on public land hunting them boogers........and it feels good to finally connect on something like that

Proud... if you go to the Pope and Young web-site, there is a link to a score sheet that will do all the scoring for you. I use a paper seamstresses tape and I think it works just fine. Just follow the directions and it is pretty easy. The score won't matter though. That is a damn nice buck in anybody's book and you should be on cloud nine. The fact that you popped him on a public hunting area makes him even more special. Great job.
I didn't start hunting until I was 18. My pop lost a brother to a guy plinking with a .22 back in the thirty's and his experiences from WWII were pretty brutal. He just didn't want me to get hurt. I've killed plenty of bucks, but it took 34 years before I popped a really good one, then another one two weeks to the day after the first. I let the little bucks walk now, happy to stick doe's for speed meat. That's a great buck and you should still be feeling great about it for months to come.

I found the P&Y website you mentioned. I'll get it scored when the taxidermist completes the mount in about 6 months. Yes, I'm very proud of that deer.

Oh that's rich and very coincidental too. I have two college roommates that traveled to Motown to meet e for the LSU-WVU game a couple years ago. Neither of them hunt, but I was showing them some of these photo's and said.. "Sure hope I can get one of them" and my buddy Poodle actually commented... "How can you miss? You already have deer porn of them on your laptop."

Thanks for posting.

BTW, we brought a new guy into our group last year and he's from Bama. He's a damn good guy and I've never seen a human that could track deer better... like a dog. Funny, every time the Tide has a night game, we seem to have a deer to track and retrieve. We've made him miss 3 or 4 games.

Finally connected with a 2 1/2 year old 8 point yesterday. They're starting to roam. I had never seen this buck before on any of my trail cam pics. By the way, nice buck, Proud!

Saw a small buck running 6 six does Friday evening along with a real nice one running a does behind Chick-Fil-A in Vienna around 11:30 Friday morning. I rattled in a little 6 point yesterday morning then the prick beds down almost directly under my stand. He laid there for 2 goddamn hours until a doe came by and got his attention. He harassed her for a few minutes then walked off.

Saw 2 more bucks last night right before dark showing mild interest in the 2 does that were in front of me. This is the best rut activity I have seen in several years around here. I suspect the chase phase will be peaking in the next week or so. I haven't seen a lot of scrapes and rubs which I would normally expect to see this time of year but, as long as they are cruising for does like yesterday I really don't care.

Got a doe on Tuesday also, now I'm holding out for a wallhanger to fill my last archery tag.
