"Air Force ranks No. 6"

You know I never rally thought about it but you would think that the armed forces academies would rank #1. lol

Competition shooting is a lot different, then what most armed forces train to. I've never been in the armed forces, so I don't know exactly how they train. I have tried a little competition shooting, it's weird, and I did get my A$$ handed to me by military snipers. However, a friend of mine, won numerous shooting tournies, within the army, and couldn't even sniff our team.

Plus does this look like anything the army would carry?

WVU won its first match, totally dominating 8th ranked TCU, 4712-4664. Their score was 2 points higher than any score last year, when they were undefeated and won the NCAA championship. It was also at least 50 points higher than their first match score from last year.

Despite returning the complete first team from last year, they've put a couple newcomers on the first team. In the small bore, WVU took the 1st 5 spots. In air rifle, WVY took 4 of the top 6 spots. They were 1st, two tied for 3rd, and one tied for 5th with a TCU shooter.

Shot 4718, 2 points under NCAA record (owned by WVU) yesterday. They'll easily break it by end of season. They're shooting about 25 points above last year, when they were undefeated national champions.

Still dominant, defeating #12 Army 4717-4644. It was Army's best score of the year. The 4717 was the third-highest NCAA score, the top two also WVU.

Yes, The target in competition shooting is pretty small. For the armed forces....let's just say...left subclavian artery or right atrium.....who gives a crap...target neutralized. In competition shooting that is the difference between 1st and last place.

Oh....and in competition shooting the target doesn't rush you and shoot back.

#1 WVU defeated #2 alaska-fairbanks at Fairbanks, by 4691-4688. WVU was 18 points under their small-bore average to go down by 12, but outscored Alaska by 15 in air:

Another match there tomorrow.

The NCAA championships will be held there, so WVU scheduled a two-day meet there for practice.

WVU still # 1, but Alaska shot a 4712 at their range at NCAA qualifying, and holds the NCAA championship there. WVU shot at 4705 at the WVU range for the qualifying. The WVU average (top three results at three different ranges) is around 4711. WVU has season highs of 4719 and 4718 or so.

So, is shooting important in this sport?

No. I wouldn't even put it in the top three of importance.

A stifling defense in rifle is so much more important than shooting. We usually go full man down range to up range, "Ears on" to "Ears off".

We tire the opposition out. We are too deep for them. You can only tote those shooty thingys so long.

Rebounding is also very tricky.

Shouldn't it be #1 with a pellet?

Rifle is small bore and air rifle. I believe small bore uses a cartridge.

In the GARC conference, WVU had 4 shooters 1st-team small bore, 3 2nd team, 5 1st team air rifle, 1 2nd team air rifle, 4 1st team combined and 4 2nd team combined. Each team had 5 total shooters.

I would imagine defense in rifle would be very easy.
