Current score: WVU 4137 - AF 4105

Bamsey and Thrasher are the two who can count the smallbore score this relay...Thrasher left 5 points off the board through the first position, Bamsey only left 4 points off.

ncohen - Whats the order of the positions in smallbore?

Or if both hit hit 583, would bump out Gratz's 582, right?

If only Lucas's 589 smallbore score counted...that's a 7 point swing right there.

Oof...Thrasher already left 6 points hanging 7 shots through the 2nd position. Nevermind...apparently practice shots, her target just reset.

Let's see if splitting the disciplines between Saunders and Bamsey pays off or backfires.

Bamsey pulls through the 2nd position with a 199/200. Thrasher had a bad go with a 194.

Bamsey only needs to shoot a 189 (9.5 avg) in the final position to get the record!

Hell, if Thrasher can get a 195 this position, she could do it too.

There's potential to shatter the record!

EDIT - From the appearance of Sunderman's practice target, the final position must be standing.

Well....Sunderman shot a 585, but it doesn't count.

Side note: Breaking the match record would also mean tying the smallbore record of 2339.

All Bamsey needs is one 10 and three 9's in 4 shots....

The rifle team may break their recent record in today's match against Akron. Some high air rifle scores -- 599 and 598. And Jean-Pierre Lucas's smallbore score in counting in the match against Akron. His scores hadn't been counting for a large stretch last year -- perhaps academically ineligible. In the last match, where the team had a record, it would have been 7 points higher if his score had counted:

WVU set a new air rifle score of 2390, breaking their old record of 2386. That's at least 230 bullseyes out of 240 shots. They're also well on their way to breaking the match record of 4724 that they set last week. Their air score last week was 2384, and Lucas is counting again in smallbore.

Lucas has four shots to go. If all bullseyes, the WVU score is 4737, shattering their last week's record of 4724.

Final score, a national record shattering 4740!

WVU shot a 4723 at the NCAA qualifying today. I suspect this score shatters the NCAA qualifying record. They also didn't include their best shooter among those who counted, so it could have been higher.

The Mountaineers (12-0, 8-0 GARC) defended their Great American Rifle Conference championship in Oxford, Mississippi in the GARC Championships. The title makes seven straight conference championships for the nation’s top team.

A 2,367 air rifle score earned the Mountaineers first again, winning the air rifle discipline title and confirming an overall GARC-best 11th championship with a 4,702 aggregate.

No. 2 Kentucky finished second with a 4,677 and No. 10 North Carolina State took third, shooting a 4,651. Kentucky, along with GARC opponent Nebraska, will shoot alongside the Mountaineers in the NCAA championship in Akron, Ohio.

WVU competed short-handed. Two members of the team were shooting in the European championships. One of them (Something like Melis Keeis) qualified for the Estonia national team as a result. One of last year's grads, Zeva Dvorak, also made her country's national team.

The future is bright. Although 4 seniors graduate, two freshmen were the best WVU shooters at the GARC championship.

smallbore

WVU

Spurgeon 581
Bamsey 587

Murray State
shooter-1 581
shooter-2 586

5 shooters. Top 4 count. I don't know the other scores. WVU has been dominant this year. Murray State is the only team with a chance of beating them, if WVU has a bad two days.

I believe WVU finished 1-2-4 in the individual smallbore finals. Ginny Thrasher, a freshman won with Meelis Kiisk, a senior from Estonia and Michael Bamsey, a senior from Scotland, placing 2nd and 4th. The lead Murray State shooter was 6th.

For teams, I believe that means that 3 WVU shooters were in the top 8 and only 1 Murray State shooter. So, looking good.
