Coming back to the Eers as the OC! Interesting to say the least!

I dunno. Seems thread-worthy to me. I think this is a big deal for a team that sometimes loses its way on offense.

OC is important and deserving of own threat. It is still being debating whether Alabama lost the National Championship because of their last minute OC departure. New quarterback with the experience of Jake can only be a good thing for WVU.

Cal 2016 offensive stats:
- No. 4 in passing yards per game with 358.8.
- No. 10 in overall yards per game with 513.
- No. 22 in points per game with 37.1.
- Completed 74 percent of fourth-down conversions.
- Quarterback Davis Webb was No. 6 in passing yards with 4,295. He was also No. 8 in touchdown throws with 37.
- Wide receiver Chad Hansen was No. 17 in reception yards with 1,249.

And that was with Spav only being there one season. I think Grier could be comparable to Webb. And I truly believe our core of receivers and running backs are much better than what Cal had this season. Cal wasn't good this year but it sure wasn't because of offense (The Bears' defense ranked No. 125 in total defense).

I like having a combination Dana with Spav on offense and Gibson on defense. On paper, it just looks like it fits. Now if we could get a solid special teams coach, I think WVU would be a team to reckon with even more in the Big 12 next season.

I think the bigger story is why we let our Offensive Line coach go that had our line playing the best since Rick Trickett was here and had sent several to the NFL. I hope Joe Wickline is as good a coach as Crook was.

I am happy that Spatial is back and think it will be good, but the loss of Crook will definitely hurt.

I don't think Crook was all that great of a coach myself, at least for a spread team.

This.

No slap in the face intended for Crook...but the line got much better (and meaner) when Wickline was brought in.

Wasn't Wickline hired as the OC and assistant offensive line coach? With Spavital hired as the OC, does this mean Wickline was demoted to offensive line coach?

Wickline, by all accounts, wants to be the line coach. It is where he has made his bread and butter. I don't think "demoted" is really the word; he won't be making any less money. And he sure as **** wasn't calling plays last year.

The next thing you are going to try to tell me is Joe Deforest isn't the defensive coordinator any more.

The Secret to Luring Jake Spavital Back to WVU

Jake's wife Meghan Spavital (the former Meghan Morris, a WVU gymnast and Belle, WV native) had something to do with it.

Quote:
"She overheard me talk about the possibility of coming back to West Virginia, and I felt like she started packing up her bags right there in Berkeley, California immediately."

Thank you Meghan!

So now I'm going to sit between Spavital's wife and Grier's girlfriend.
