Which Roster do you like better?

Going by who mainly played during critical games:

2016
Guards:
Carter
Paige
Miles
Phillips

Forwards:
Williams
Holton
Adrian
Ahmad
Macon

2017
Guards
Carter
Miles
Phillips
Myers

Forwards:
Adrian
Ahmad
Watkins
Macon
Konate
West
Suprisingly, Rebounds per game only down 2 vs last year, freethrow % about the same, steals up 1 per game, TOs down 2 per game, big differences are 3 pt shooting percentage up 5%, and Blocks up from 3 to 5 per game.

Versus last year, guard play to me is better with less turnovers, more steals, Myers is defintely better than last year, and having a reserve like Bolden is a huge luxury. Miles and Phillips prob. both playing at same level as last year. I liked the way Paige played last year in Big 12 play, but was a non-factor in NCAA tourney game.

Forward play has changed drastically, I think everyone loved how hard Williams played every game, no matter what it seemed he would get you that tough rebound.
Holton was great to watch as the frontman of the press and his offensive putbucks were critical.

That being said I would also have to go with this seasons big men overall. The big difference to me is Adrian's improvement, never thought I would ever say I would take Adrian over Holton, but I am now, Adrian has been great as the frontman of the press, doesn't make many dumb mistakes, can shoot the threeball vs. Holton, and just overall is a great team leader. Then you have Konate who is something we haven't had at WVU since Wellington Smith, a Rim protector. Overall Watkins has improved a great deal, but still disappears in games too much. Ahmad has shown he can takeover games at times, but at times can really struggle, but is much improved vs last year. Macon is about the same and West gives you a great o/s threat that we were missing last year.

I think we're all interested to see if this team can make a decent run in NCAA tourney this year. Vegas has WVU at 26-1 to win NCAA title.

I think Macon has improved immensely since last/previous years. Huggs says he's been hurt. He's a 4* recruit and playing like it this year.

Macon's been playing like what all had hoped he turn into this season.

The last three games he's been a beast on the boards and his low post move has been great. I think going into the season expectations were for him averaging 10 pts and 8 boards a game with Devin leaving which was prob. too high.
He seemed to be really struggling with his post moves and just handling the ball, through most of this season and then it seems like a light just clicked, and Now it seems he's figured out that you must do your post move right away as soon as you get the ball.

That's a great point. I have noticed that when he gets the ball now he starts his move immediately. He's very quick for his size. He has a real good spin move

Take each player's best game and have that transferred to every game in the upcoming tournaments and NOBODY can beat us. The problem ~ as we all know ~ is who shows up in the Big 12 Tournament and the NCAA Tournament.

The 2016 roster was very good (equal) but they looked like they all just smoked a big doobie before Stephen F Austin game....

My Top 4 guards are:

Carter
Phillips
Myers
Bolden

And ... NO ... I didn't "forget" anyone.

If they are not ON my list. they didn't MAKE the list.

I could be wrong, but, I think Chase Harler will get a fair amount of playing time next year.

IMO, this year's roster is better without question. A lot of it is due to the redshirt guys, but just compare the Lost/Gained

we lost:
6'7" Holton -- decent defender, good length, decent on offense
6'2" Paige -- excellent 6th man scorer, average defender
6'9" Devin Williams -- great rebounder, strong but unathletic, average offense

we gained:
6'8" West -- sharpshooter, decent defender, good length. Basically fills Holton's spot, plus some IMO
6' Bolden -- sharpshooter, decent defense, ball handler. Doesnt exactly fill Paige's shoes, but he can score on anyone.
6'10" Konate -- you guys may disagree, but he's an athletic version of Devin Williams. Probably already better on offense, definitely a better defender, and just as strong on the glass.
6'10" Bender -- raw, super size, but he's a development project

At the end of the day, this year's team is more skilled and more versatile that last year's.

I will take previous years big guys at this point, imagine this team with Devin Williams as a senior.

One very huge thing this year that is become very apparent is we have a monster Freshman class. Beetle,Konate, and West alone make our future look bright.

My biggest concern right now is Bob Huggins, he has hinted around "I'm getting old." We don't have long.

I agree. This team is a few close loses away from being ranked in the top 3, and it's still # 2 in the Sagarin ratings and # 4 in Espn's BPI (not ALL of ESPN hates WVU). I didn't check those rankings for last year's team, but I doubt they were anywhere near that high.

Phillip is "Phillips." Sorry.

And YES, absolutely no Dax in the Top 4.
