Never too early to look ahead, right?

WVU just picked up its second commitment of the 2018 class in defensive tackle Tyrese Allen. He picked the Mountaineers over Purdue, Cincinnati, Memphis and Marshall. He is a 3* recruit from Kentucky and looks to have some nice size with a little speed. He is listed at around 6-foot-3, 290 pounds. It appears Bruce Tall was his main recruiter.

WVU's first commitment was from defensive tackle James Gmiter. He is a 3* recruit from Pittsburgh who also had an offers from Wisconsin, Temple and Cincinnati. He is listed at around 6-foot-4, 305 pounds.

Fun note: he goes to the same high school that produced Nick Kwiatkoski.

Eh you never know how these kids will develop, it's not unheard of to see them gain 10-20 pounds of muscle once they get to college. I am all for getting bodies, looks like a promising start for 2018. Hopefully Gmiter has the same fight Kwiatkowski had ;)

I think 77Mountie's comment might have been some sarcasm. Those are some big high schoolers who will only get bigger.

Lmao alright, I was making sure, I thought they were relatively big for high schoolers, but I didn't want to just be assuming

Well, yes, there was a hint of sarcasm intended. These kids are high school JUNIORS. They've got another year of high school to go before they come onto campus. I know I grew my senior year of high school.

If these two stay true and WVU lands Dante Stills (who is listed at 6'4, 265), the defensive line will be massive in a few years.

West Virginia Gets Football Verbal from WR Mike O'Laughlin

6'5" 205lbs.

hudl highlights

A lot to like about this young man. He could be a WR, TE or paving the way for our RBs.

I think O'Laughlin will get on campus, put on some weight and become a tight end for the Mountaineers. Dana has been on the hunt for reliable tight ends for awhile now.

Yep.

I take this a proof that he has been reading my posts. I have been ranting on this for years.

You can't run the Air Raid and run the ball out of it using smurfs as receivers.

You need guys that can create mismatches in the middle of the field AND block on run plays.

It's slow in the way of WVU sports and I am bored, so why not post something with little merit.

We are supposedly short on qb's. This may be a nice addition. Number 6 pocket passer out of high school, but hasn't developed yet. Obviously has potential if he was the frontrunner after last season.

Apparently Spav is following him on Twitter now (doesn't mean much but still) so this could be a possibility.

I have had no problems with getting transfers in at quarterback. BUT HOLY CHRIST. 2018 quarterback recruiting is already going south at the high school level.

Almost every quarterback the Mountaineers have recruited have gone somewhere else. Devin Leary and Tyler DeSue both looked good but they went elsewhere. Spav was going after a kid he recruited at Cal from the Fresno area but looks like he is headed to Tennessee. Kevin Doyle from PA is still available but he appears to be a Pitt, BC and Kentucky lean. I know it is early but goddamn.

The most likely option in a recruit is Cross Wilkinson at this point. I imagine if/when the staff offers him a scholarship, he will on board. But he seems to like Toledo a lot.

I have no idea why it's so bad.

Hopefully Grier lights it up and some of them take notice.

WVU picked up a commitment from Leddie Brown. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound running back was a top target for WVU in this class for awhile and has offers from Florida, Louisville, Maryland, UNC, Rutgers and Tennessee. He seemed to be a lock for the Mountaineers but it is nice to finally see him commit.

This guy is a total package: good size, good speed, good hands, good vision.
