"Where this could help West Virginia, though, is in keeping running back Leddie Brown. The current commit just transferred to St. Frances Academy and will now be teammates with Fields. While Brown has been taking visits lately, his windows are closing at the other two main options."

Hopefully, this helps.

Florida just had a second running back commit this weekend. I think they were only taking two this season, so I think the Gators will really back off of Brown.

So a guy from the same school Leddie Brown is at and the same school Logan Holgorsen is set to go to. Very interesting.

At 6'3" 185-195 lbs. I'm guessing he will get more attention. He can go up and get the ball and catches it with his hands. He's also not afraid of contact. Doesn't look real fast though . I hope he makes it here so he can do some damage in the end zone and while blocking down the field.

WVU Offers Former Four-Star SEC Lineman

Quote:
West Virginia offered a new junior college offensive lineman late Thursday night - Tyler (TX) J.C. tackle Willie Allen.

If the name sounds familiar, it should. The 6-foot-7, 300-pounder was a four-star, Top247 recruit out of high school who eventually signed with LSU. He redshirted his first year in the program (2016) and was slotted in the two-deep for the Tigers before leaving after the spring. Since announcing his departure, UCLA, Baylor, TCU and Syracuse have also offered. He would have three years to play three. Check out his highlights below.

Rob Dowdy is done right? Just a few more guys and this will be close to a full class. Pooler please step up and sacrifice yourself for the good of the cause. Collin Smith is the next Tonkery. Prolly not as athletic but a whole helluva lot more physical. If exroe keeps eating he's heading that way too. Can we offer Tavis Lee damn lol. We just took a commit in qualls who all he did was rush the passer and he's smaller and third string at lb.

It looks like Rob Dowdy left due to injuries. I think I read his back was too bad to play. I feel bad for him, because he hadn't really gotten his chance yet. Hopefully he can finish his degree and go pro in the profession of his choice.

I have not heard that Isaiah Hardy made it to campus. He is not listed on the official roster as of today. At the start of camp, WVU had 67 players either in town or expected to arrive who would still be eligible next year. That number has been reduced by 4 (Hardy, Dowdy, Maverick Wolfley, Jah'Shaun Seider). It may be reduced by two more depending on off-field circumstances (Marcus Simms and Jovon Durante). Now, by my count there are 63 (possibly 61) active players who are eligible to return next year.

That means there are a minimum of 22 scholarships available. 15 are spoken for so far. Where do the other seven go?

1. If Hardy does arrive (or has), he is one.

2. Dante Stills. This young man has been a Mountaineer since the day he was born. His spot is reserved.

3. Kwantel Raines. It's us and Pitt. It might be us. It might even be a close race. Too soon to tell, but if he says yes, his spot is reserved also.

4. and 5. I would say there is room for two more offensive linemen, since 3 of the 4 lost were OL. Blaine Scott has us as a clear fromt runner. I think Josh Ezeudu from GA has reopened his recruitment. Several JUCO guys are in the works too, as is Luke Tenuta from VA. I think if Hardy does not arrive, they might take 3 linemen, but 2 at the least.

6. A cornerback. WVU loses 3 to graduation this year and only has one verbal at CB. So far, Taymon Cooke and Jeremy Webb seem to be the frontrunners, but Donte Burton from GA might enter the mix.

7. Who knows? They might be, as was mentioned upthread, beefing up Smith and Loe for LB spots. They may not need a LB as badly as I once thought. Joseph Scates is a 4-star WR from OH that has us and Bama as his frontrunners. He might be in the mix as insurance against Durante and Simms. TJ Banks from PA likes us too. So do a couple of LBs. JUCO season is heating up, and then there is the possibility of keeping a couple of these slots open for transfers.

Hope we keep the guys we have. It looks like a good group so far. Tavis Lee is intriguing, but might be a preferred walk on unless he blows up his senior year. Thoughts?

Hardy is there. That's what I've read anyway. Stills is committing this Thursday. Pretty sure he does bleed blue and gold. But Raines obviously has a spot. Cooke the boy from bluefield Virginia definitely has a spot. Really don't know what's holding him up, I guessing grades cause he doesn't have many looks coming his way. He's a corner. I think they want prolly two more corners. They said they wanted three LB's earlier and only have one committed. They just offered a juco LB. prolly another hs lineman the kid who committed to ole miss is top choice and looking a juco offensive tackles. Tavis I don't ever see walking on. Hell he'll go to Marshall before that and I hope he does just so I can follow his career. But it's a shame this isn't a big class, he'd already be offered and committed. I think he gets the offer late but the depends on if the other lbs they have offered commit I'm guessing. Since that's where he'll have to play. I just think when you have so many guys in each class who don't produce, I dot think it's taking much of a chance on him. Big enough and fast enough to play old right now. It's only his third year of ball. But admittedly I'd thought he'd have more offers. But most of that is just not camping and staying in state. Prospects like him don't come around often. He's twice the lb from capital last year who wvu offered. He was a second team all American per one publication. And his stats were off the charts last year. I hope he gets it. But anyway are we going to take another WR? I thought Taylor would be our last but then the kid from md committed so I dunno. Ohhh I'm sure Scates from Ohio has a spot regardless. Down to is and bama

Yes, you are right. Hardy is on the roster now.

I saw on the WV Sports.com site that WVU used some of its scholarship openings to reward some seniors for scholarships. Nick Meadows, Shane Commodore, and Alejandro Marenco were allput on scholarship. Since this is their last year, it does not have any bearing on recruiting. One move that does matter though, is that junior punter Billy Kinney is now on scholarship. I'm happy for him and he deserves it. He is a good punter. I would assume he will stay on scholarship this year and next.

With Durante's departure and the scholarship additions of Hardy and Kinney, there are 64 players on scholarship eligible to return for 2018. That means there are 21 recruiting slots open and 15 are filled.

Six to go. Make that five after Thursday. It's unthinkable that Dante Stills won't commit to WVU, since he is announcing at a HS pep rally in Fairmont. If he would do otherwise, talk about a pep rally killer! My gut tells me that 99% of Polar Bear fan are also WVU fans. He wouldn't do that to them. Not there. Not then.

Once he commits, this will be the best DL group in recent memory, maybe for generations. Stills is legit. I think the kid from Ohio (Williams) will be special. Gmiter is the second coming of Chris Nield - the big nose tackle that eats up blockers. Tyrese Allen will be good too. Those last three guys I think are very, very underrated. We have been forced to play the odd stack defense due to lack of presence on the D-line. That is changing big time with last year's class and this year. Maybe more multiple looks are in the future mix. Headed in the right direction.

Dante Stills is in!

He is such a huge get for us. He is the highest ranked player from northern WV since probably Chris Yura (remember him?).

i have to think the staff is done on the DL. This will prove to be quite a haul 4-5 years from now. All 4 of them have the ability to excel. Combine this group with the young linemen there already (Shuler, Donahue, McDougle, Darius Stills) the young LBs (Long, Hensley, Tonkery, Ferns, Sandwisch), and the young studs in the secondary (CBs Bailey, Davis, Long, Mahone, Adams X 2 and Safeties Stewart, Robinson, and Pitts) and this defense looks REALLY scary in 2-3 years.

Who is left to fill the 5 remaining slots?

1. Kwantel Raines - it's going to come down to us and Pitt. He would make the perfect spur safety. Can you imagine him, Pitts at bandit, and Robinson at free for 2-3 years? There are a number of JUCO safeties coming onto the radar as a plausible plan B if Raines chooses to stay home.

2. An interior OL - we are losing two to graduation, and Mays is already committed. I'm thinking Blaine Scott, but the staff may go JUCO. They may do both.

3. A CB. Three are graduating. There are several good young corners, so WVU may decide to do a grad transfer, a JUCO (several are on the radar, most notably Jeremy Webb), or a HS player (Donte Burton or Taymon Cooke).

4. A LB - maybe. There is one commit (Chandler) and we lose three to graduation. There may be plans to beef up 1-2 of the RS Freshman safeties (Loe and/or Smith). I don't know. There are good interested LBs out there and if Asamoah or Miller say yes, I doubt the staff would say no.

5. ??? A tackle, a WR (Joseph Scates is very interested), a hybrid (TJ Banks), a transfer, a second interior lineman? Any combination of the above would be possible. It's nice to have options and a lot of yong talent already on the roster. That way, they can bring along some of these guys without throwing them to the wolves too early (see the 2013 defense).

I have to think QB, RB, TE, and the DL are done. No specialists are getting scholarships either. It's really nice to have options.

Yura was, what, class of '98? I think he was the same class as Quincy Wilson. If you're talking best northern WV prospects, Jenkins out of Parkersburg was a 5 star US Army AA and Brandon Barrett was a 4 star with offers from everybody. I know we landed a few 4 star guys out of Morgantown that never played a down too. Based on that alone we should probably temper our expectations. If he's half the player as his old man, though, he'll be a good one.

His brother, Darius is doing pretty good and Gibby says he's the number one surprise of players in the fall camp. Darius will likely get quite a bit of playing time this fall. I'm hoping that both boys will be major contributors for the next few years.

Yura was 1998. I remember going to Wheeling Island Stadium and watching his Mohigans take on J.R. House and Nitro HS for the AAA state title in Dec 97. Great game. House was phenomenal. Stayed for the A game and watched Valley Wetzel take a beating from Moorefield, I think (or was it C-K?). VW went to the title game and lost 3 or 4 years in a row. Tom West and that full-house backfield. I knew a lot of people in Pine Grove in those days.

Jenkins wasn't rated as high as Dante Stills in the 247 composite. Barrett was higher. Since the 247 rankings started, Stills is the 7th highest rated recruit (behind Devine, Gwaltney, Barrett, McCartney, Geno, And Bruce Irvin). 3 greats and 3 busts on that list.

Where did Tevita Finau rank?

Speaking of Northern WV studs, Eddie Drummond out of Wheeling- Linsly Academy was a pretty big deal. I believe he made some AA lists for the class of '98
