I just realized I had us losing the last 3 games of the year but...yikes. What a brutal stretch.

Speaking of this stretch...ESPN ranked this 3 week stretch as the #7 toughest 3 week stretch in college football.

They ranked the 12 toughest 3-game stretches; by conference... 4 B12, 3 SEC, 2 ACC, 2 B12, 1 B10

Does anyone have any concern of Coach Spav "forgetting" that we have the best RB trio in the Big 12?

It may be unlikely but he does have a reputation of chucking the ball 50+ times a game, so I hope he still maintains an equal balance with the pass and run which was such an integral part of our 10 win season last year. I have a feeling there may be times where the opposing defense is playing well and his frustration shows with Air Raid, Air Raid, Air Raid.

I think most people only look at his time at Cal. Spav's play calling ratio has mimicked Dana's more often than not.

In his first season at A&M, he was a co offensive coordinator. In 2013, A&M threw it 489 times and ran it 465 times. That is damn close to 50/50.

The next year as the lone OC, passing jumped to 514 attempts while running fell to 421. That is 55% passing plays and 45% running plays.

In 2015, the Aggies threw it 482 time but ran it 505 times. That is 51 to 49 in favor of running.

At Cal in 2016, it was 621 passing attempts to 414 carries. So the Golden Bears threw it 60% of the time. You have to remember Cal had no where near the backfield WVU has (hell A&M never did either). Plus the Golden Bears had a horrible defense (gave up more than 40 points in nine games). They were playing catch up a lot.

I think Spav is smart enough to use what he has. Also, I am sure Dana will let him know about it. WVU isn't going to ignore the run with the success Sims, Smallwood and Crawford have had the last few seasons.

8-4, with a bowl win. Losses to Texas, OSU, OU, and VT.

Hurts to write, because I believe Holgy is a good coach, but the BIG12 is full of good coaches with good players.

My concern with Spavital is:
1. Never really had great win-loss records when OC.
In 2012 was mainly QB coach, but team went 7-6. 4-5 conference
2013 OC/QB 8-5 with Johnny Manziel, when previous season A&M went 11-2 without Spavital. 4-4 conference
2014 OC A&M went 8-5 and 3-5 conference.
2015 OC A&M went 8-5 and 4-4 conference.
2016 Cal 5-7 went 5-7 and 3-6 conference.
I think key is conference records being only 18 W 24 losses.

2. Felt Dana learned alot in 6 years as HC, that you can't run full throttle on offense and you need balanced attack especially with talent pool that WVU can recruit. You have to play clock and you do that by running game. Will Spatival be pass happy or learn like Dana did the hard way. The offense has to play at a pace the defense can handle. Yes, we have good QB and good WR's now, but RB's is equally as good. Hoping team stays at least 50/50 pass/run or what defense gives.

I just snagged a copy of Phil Steele's College Preview and glanced over it...no love for WVU again this year (much like last year).

He has us finishing 7th in the Big 12 and making a bowl game although he does briefly admit how he was wrong about us last year. He leans heavily on returning experience from LAST season (#125 on his Experience Chart)as part of his power rankings (we're #49 in Power Poll sandwiched between Arizona St #48 and Duke #50). Almost all of our units (with the exception of Defensive Line and Special Teams) are ranked 50 or higher in the country.

I'm pretty confident Holgy will be in Spavital's ear.

And more importantly, the Big XII 3 game stretches are IN conference games. The other conferences had to include non-conference games to make a tough stretch.

THIS is why the 10 team, round robin conference is a STRONGER model.

And why the BIg XII should stand pat on TEN teams. And advertise this strength.

I'd rather wait to predict until I see Grier actually play a game, but what the hell. Like Bluto Blutarski said, "Don't cost nuthin.'"

9-3

Sorry but I see 8-4.

The 2-deep on defense has been devastated by graduating players the past two years. The D over came it last year, but 2 years in a row is too much to ask.

Hope I'm wrong and we go 10-2.

I just got my new Freire jersey and a pair of gold and blue spanx. I'm totally ready for the start of the season.

Yeah....they tried that. SG I am with you but it is really hard to do that when you spend millions of dollars advertising:

One True Champion

....and then the first year your commissioner dances around like his feet are on fire and his ass was catching and abandons the plan in a fire sale of crying and pleading telling the championship committee they can name whatever champion they want.

Nothing like sticking to a plan. I have to believe it would be unwise to plot robbing a bank with Bob Bowlesby.....after 10 hours of planning and casing the joint Bob Bowlesby would run in screaming "Leeeeeeroy Jenkins".
