Unsuccessful Attempt to Repeal Affordable Care Act

The early hours of the morning marked a significant failure of Republican attempts to repeal the ACA. Three Republican Senators, Murkowski, Collins, and McCain, joined the 48 Democrats to defeat "skinny repeal" 51-49. Everyone agreed that the voted-down bill was terrible -- Lindsey Graham said it was "a fraud" and passage would be "the dumbest thing in history." Republican leadership urged passage on the grounds that something had to be passed, but three Republicans were sensible.

With Senator Schumer, I'm relieved. I hope the Senate listens to McCain and comes up with a bipartisan bill to fix this country's health care system.

No one wants to touch the NEW third rail that is EXPANDED Medicaid that was created by the Obama Care drafters for this specific reason. Once they got it in place it would be almost impossible to get rid of.

The Governors lapped it up like Heroin and now they are hooked. Problem is the Feds were paying the freight. Now the State's don't want to and CAN'T pay even 10% of the total freight. It will DRIECTLY to single-payer government-run health care.

Financial Disaster is headed straight for us ...

Medicaid expansion must GO.

Ya'll are complaining about single payer government healthcare now but when it puts more money in your pockets you'll change your tune.

Having everyone putting money into the system means the government can negotiate with healthcare providers, eliminates guess work and red tape of what a procedure costs for what provider. This cuts down on hospital administration costs.

Sure you might have to wait an extra day or two to get a doctor's note for a sick day or get top shelf cough syrup but that's a small price to pay for when big stuff pops up like cancer treatments.

The existence of a universal healthcare system doesn't mean the absence of private health care and insurance.

Insurance companies will have to offer you better coverage at better prices to compete with a single payer option.

I'm betting that even with paying into a national healthcare fund (yes via taxes) and buying supplemental private insurance the overall cost will still be lower than whatever you're paying now.
