You get 4.5 points at Vegas. Really tempting. I'm sold on Gibson, I think Defense will win game against Virginia Tech.

Don't have a local bookie anymore and have been burned too many times on the spread. I never bet on them anymore. Go for it if you have money to burn, and I hope you cover big time.

Poof-Back from the slumber. Awoken by the great beast GAMB-LOR. Pot Baby summoned all his strenghtI and threw his solid gold sword on the betting window. Betting it on WVU to cover the 4 points.

Your reappearance in the nick of time reminded me of this for some reason.

The first minute anyway.

No matter how tempting this bet would be, I think your right. It's just impossible to be impartial in assessing your team.

A bet on season total wins seems far better -- the line is 7. You give 4/3 odds, but I think the chances of WVU winning 8 or more are far greater than the chances of winning 6 or fewer. There's less uncertainty, because luck over a season might average out a bit, while anything can happen in one game, especially the opening game.

6 wins is conceivable -- WVU defeated Texas, K State, TCU, and BYU (the VPI equivalent) last year to go 10-2, and none of those is a sure win this year, but chances WVU loses ALL of them should be fairly slight. Or, to put it another way, the chance that WVU wins at least 2 of those 4 is far greater than the chance they lose ALL 4.

I forgot Baylor, which is also improved, but perhaps WVU is still a significant favorite. So, that's 5 games that are reasonably close. WVU would have to win at most 1 to lose the bet, and win at least 3 to win the bet. If, on average, WVU has a 50% chance of winning each game, a WVU bettor would win 8 times in 11. If WVU has a 43.33% of winning each game, then a WVU bettor would come out even on average. If WVU had about a 40.5% chance of winning each game, a WVU winner would win about half the time (but lose because of the odds) . If WVU had a 55% chance of winning each game, the bettor would win 9 times in 11.

If that bet is still available and the line is the same, it's looking very good after the Texas and Baylor losses.
