I'd like to say WVU pulls it off, but I think TCU wins this. The Defensive line and Cornerbacks just aren't there yet. No pressure on QB and lack of lockdown corners who make way too many mistakes. Clemson dominating VTU, I just think this tells you that the Big 12 doesn't have a team that can beat Bama or Clemson. The best teams OU or maybe TCU don't have the talent on both sides to match Clemson.

That being said, I think way too early to predict playoffs, since it's a long season and injuries could change the landscape.

Clemson probably has the best defense in college football.

Bama definitely has the best defense.

I think a critical stat for the game is:
Average time WVU offense on field is only 27 minutes, while average time TCU offense is 34 minutes.

Lets say actual games ends up WVU offense is 26 minutes and TCU is 34 minutes. That means our Defense is on the field an extra 8 minutes or 31% longer than TCU's defense. Sure way to wear out a defense that is thinner and inexperienced. This is why Air Raid sucks. Where is Tom Bradley when you need him to talk some sense in clock management. This is where Dana has regressed and why we might have to drop our expectations for 8 plus wins.

Actually, I like gameday at TCU, it adds more pressure to TCU to perform, really zero pressue on WVU.
TCU will be going through the hype machine and most experts are going to pick TCU to win big. WVU players are going to get tired of hearing on how great TCU is.

Eh, whatever. I guess its always good for your program to be part of the showcase game of the weekend and the press and hype that Gameday brings with it. This game was always going to be a toss-up for WVU, with or without ESPN being on site so we should just appreciate that our team and program will get some love on Saturday morning. We all know they're all going to pick TCU. We all know most of the talk will be about TCU. There will be some love thrown our way and that has to be good for the program as a whole.

I kind of like this actually because everyone is seriously sleeping on us. I know TCU is stout on defense, but I like our offense. If our guys can come out and pull this off we will be getting a lot of love afterward.

It's also because we've hit a bunch of big plays, that's not all on Dana, a lot on Spav and the competition we've played. I'm sure we'll be sustaining longer drives against teams like TCU when it's actually necessary.

Our O-Line must keep us in this game. If they BLOCK THEIR ASSES OFF and we can stay on the field and score points ... then we have a legitimate chance.

But, if we keep putting the defense in tough spots ... we will eventually wear down. Just too many injuries on the defensive side right now.

PS - Dear Punter: GATORADE!!! Start drinking it TODAY and don't stop! And .... 50 yard punt every now and then might help too.

TCU 13 point favorites, Thought it would be around 10. Last time in Fort Worth, they beat us by 30 and were actually 13 point favorites then too.

Agreed that playing a better defense will slow us down some. I'm also hoping that a lot of the inconsistency on defense was Gibson experimenting against weaker opponents to see who and what works and what doesn't. That when we get serious against a real opponent the D will tighten up considerably.

I watched the first half of the WVU-Baylor 70-63 game on YouTube. The defense this year is much better. A couple of the horrible plays:

Baylor 3 and 6. Pat Miller plays 10 yards off the receiver. He catches a short pass. Miller missed him. He goes for a long gain.

WVU up 35-28 with 9 seconds left in the half. The Baylor QB is being chased by WVU, approaches the line of scrimmage (actually, probably goes past it), and throws a long pass to a receiver who's gotten behind the defense (Karl Joseph, then a freshman, was a step behind). Any chance of catching him is lost when two pursuing WVU defenders trip over each other.

I'm feeling good about this game. We had a nice bye week. Long should be back. Our players rested and healthy. An extra week to prepare against these guys. I'm liking our chances. Grier won't lose again!!!!

Offensive keys: avoid 3rd & long. Offense is good, I'm pretty comfortable with what we have and what we do...just got to avoid making it hard for ourselves.

Defensive keys: the elephant in the room - do better against the run. And tackle better. BE BETTER. I can't imagine things looking much worse with a bye week to heal, a healthy David Long back to make some plays, and a 2 week game plan.

Prediction: TCU has looked great this year. Top 10 team now. They're at home. GameDay is coming to town....but NOT SO FAST. It's going to be an absolute shoot-out. I think we break their hearts on a final drive (like they did to us in 2012 at home) and WIN 48-45. No one is safe in the Big 12.

He dropped that 2 point conversion. If I'm remembering the correct game.

I think the key to defense, especially against teams like TCU, is to gamble selectively to force stops knowing we are going to get burnt on occasion but keeping them from scoring too much.

Absolutely. But they gave the W to TCU and the NCAA won't read any of my mailed letters.
