I understand you are upset that the state and local income tax deduction might go away. Well ... good riddance and sorry for your loss.

The rest of us citizens of low(er) state and local income tax states are tired of subsidizing your higher taxes.

Your state and local legislators have been steadily raising your state and local taxes knowing that you could ultimately write them off as deductions against your federal income taxes.

The problem with that is that every dollar your states and cities SUCK out of your income is another dollar the REST OF US have to make up for in payments to the federal government.

We are tired of subsidizing YOUR states and cities and this deductions MUST END. This is nothing short of socialized subsidies.

If you don't like losing the deduction, I suggest you elect state and local officials that will LOWER your taxes. Instead of electing politicians that take the easy way out and just raise your state and local taxes with the political comfort that you won't get too pissed off because you know you can simply turn around and write them off against your federal income tax.

The REST OF US are sick and tried of this subsidized socialization of state and local income taxation.

STOP STATE AND LOCAL TAX PAYMENT DEDUCTIONS NOW!!!!!

I live in NJ and that's fair enough.

While we're at it, let's make it so that we don't have states that are essentially welfare states that take a lot more from the Federal government than their populations provide in Federal taxes as documented here -

https://wallethub.com/edu/states-most- ... -federal-government/2700/

As shown, NJ is one of the least dependent states when it comes to Federal dollars, so my tax money is subsidizing states like Kentucky and Alabama and, yes, West Virginia. You get what you give so it's time to stop subsidizing states that can't get their economic house in order.

Deal?

I don't think anyone has to worry about tax reform. They will dally around for a couple of months and then Trump will make a statement about how he didn't realize how difficult tax reform would be and that will be the end of it.

If tax reform DOES occur, you can bet your sweet butt we ALL will be paying more in taxes. They will pat themselves on the back, idiots will love the simplicity of the tax code and revenues will increase by 15% year-over-year like in the Reagan years. The particularly stupid won't even realize that their taxes have raised and will actually think they got a tax-cut.

Meanwhile, Trumps buddies will be flush with cash, our municipalities will be cash strapped and interest hurt.

Interesting. It sounds like SG is endorsing a redistribution of tax income.

An old map for sure...but show me how it has changed. Lots of takers in those red states. Watch out what you wish for conservatives! You may not want to go there.

Actually just the opposite. Not much of a critical thinker, are you.

I am tired of the socialized subzidation of state and local taxes through federal taxation write offs.

Think about it for a while. It will sink in.

So according to the giver/taker map...you propose to stop giving to the takers??? That won't happen.

You and I have disagreed on 99% of everything...but this is really interesting. A unique situation when compared to other states.

One of several places to acquire this info

“New York generated $19.9 billion more in federal taxes than it received in federal spending in federal fiscal year 2013.”

Not sure why these reports lag so far behind, but given growth in NY the last few years, I’m pretty sure this imbalance has increased.

So what’s your problem with my state’s contribution then?

What if we went the other way and completely eliminated federal taxes and only paid state taxes?

How do you think that would work out for states like WV, Kentucky and most red states? How would it work out for CA, NY and NJ?

I don't think he knows what subsidization is. You cannot subsidize taxes. The subsidization works the other way--by requiring people from states who perform functions at the state level to pay federal taxes, which go to states who don't pay for the functions at the state level.

Federal benefits given out to states are done through the federal government where every state has representation. If you don't like who gets what, then change your senators and reps.

But I don't have a vote in the states that raise their state and local taxes while relying on the fact that their citizens can then write them off against their federal taxes. Those write offs are then socialized across the rest of the citizens in the other states without those citizens having any say in the politics in the high tax states.

Think hard ... it will sink in. Think taxation/subsidization without representation.
