Saturday’s game was a gut-punch on so many levels. The officiating, special teams, etc. That said, when you get past those things there is a lot to be encouraged about.

The defense was significantly better in all areas Saturday, holding TCU to 400 yards and was really beaten by trick plays and a turnover. They also generated what should’ve been a turnover at a crucial time. While maybe not the 2015 or 16 unit, Saturday showed that Avery and Long made a big difference. This unit will be fine, at least by B12 standards.

The offense has been truly elite. They manhandled VT and TCU defenses that are perennially among the best in America. Field position had ultimately doomed this unit and prevented them from scoring 40 against them. I’m not even going to get into our special teams, but I’ve never seen punters as good as TCU and VT have. I believe in both games they pinned us inside our own 5 at least 8 times. If that is 5 times, which is still excellent but not Ray F’ig Guy, we are 5-0 even considering our missed kicks and poor punting/returning. I’ve never seen anything like it.

It sucks to be 3-2...we could be 5-0 and number 6 in America. If we play offense and defense like we did against TCU we could win every game, especially if we don’t run into a HOF punter every week. They need to pound TT Saturday and I believe they will. No matter what, if Grier returns next year could be special.

That is some good drugs you are taking. We manhandled VT and TCU? We scored 24 points against both of these teams. That is a long way from manhandling. In college football and in the Big 12, 24 points is a decent start not an end amount.

It is possible that we don't win another game this year. I think we will. I think we will win Baylor, Texas Tech and, I hope, Iowa State. I don't know if you saw the Iowa State/Oklahoma game but THAT is how you manhandle a team.

If we play offense and defense like we did TCU/VT we lose every game 31-24.The fact is that this team plays their butts off but unfortunately make dumbass mistakes that cost them big time each week. Sometimes we can overcome it but from here on out these mistakes will be excuses for losing games.

You have to buck up and make a stop. When the score is tied you have to make plays. We are NOT making plays in pressure situations when we need to. I see nothing that says that Oklahoma will not throttle us in Norman. Fortunately for us Kansas State is on the way down.

I am heartened by the fact that I don't think we had a loose receiver in the flat with no one within 50 yards so that is a good start.

I am not as optimistic as everyone else I guess. I don't really see the teams we have played as all that good. I think we are at best a top 50 team and TCU and VTech are between 15 and 20.

I think 8-4 is probably a reasonable take for the rest of the season. I think we beat TT on Saturday, Baylor, ISU, KSU. We beat either OSU or Texas, and most likely come up short against OU. I see 8-4 or 9-3 as the most likely scenario.

I will say though, if ISU can play with OU then I think we can too, but I'm not coating on it. Maybe thats just the kool aid talking though

I think that’s overly harsh. The offense has been doomed by bad field position. Grier can’t go 97 yards every time. They’re elite

I didn’t say the defense is the 85 bears, just that they are fine by B12 standards and limited a high flying offense. I concede they had opportunities to make big stops and didn’t, but that pick shouldn’t have been overturned. Field position, and facing super heroes disguised as punters are the reason we aren’t dreaming of a playoff spot today

We simply make too many unforced STUPID mistakes.

Holgy needs to crack down on bonehead plays.

Right now ... I am not a believer.

I say we lose more than we win. We may even lose all but one. Although, EVERY team left on our schedule can beat us.

Unfortunately, this is a situation where Vegas was pretty spot on, preseason. I was dreaming of 9 or 10 wins preseason, but reality has hit, 6 or 7 seems reasonable. All these teams, OU, OSU, TTU, Texas, KSU, ISU, none of these games can you say we will definitely win. I do have Baylor penciled in as win though, not sure if I should though since it is an away game. Actually, I think only game WVU will be favored will be ISU besides TTu

If I had to bet I would say TTU, ISU and Baylor are wins.
KSU, OU and OSU are losses.
Texas is a coin toss.

If we're being honest, we all think they'll win the rest of them, otherwise why would we watch. At the kickoff of every game I would venture to say we all think "we've got this". Hence the occasional heartbreak.

Should prove to be an interesting season. I could absolutely see us upsetting somebody along the way, but I can also see us losing to somebody we should easily beat.

Unless someone catches fire, it looks like every team in the B12 will have at least one, probably 2 losses min. No great teams, and no stinkers (except Kansas).

We may all be better than we think. Won't know till bowl season.

the only reason we are not 5-0 is because of special teams. Both punters and kickers were better than ourrs. How many times did our opponent kickoff out of bounds? 100% kicking games! Among others things like muff punts. Not fielding punts. Etc.

This is so accurate. Even with our mistakes, awe would be 5-0 and national darlings had we not faced 2 of the best punters I’ve ever seen in college. It is unreal what they did to us. Look at the games and the field position. I really like our team 11 on 11...gotta figure we stop facing Ray Guy every week

We have a Special teams side to the ball? It's been, what, 6 years?

I see us losing at least 3 more. OK, OK State, and toss-ups at TX, TTU, and K State. They will mostly be close games, but this team just does not have "it". You can see it on their faces (no pun intended). We will get a minor bowl bid, again-I just hope we don't run into a "Miami-like" team in the bowl game.

Sorry - off topic. I met Ray Guy once & he was a pretty cool dude. It was in a hotel the night before a pre-season game prior to his last year. I noticed that all of the other players promptly disappeared after a certain time. I asked him about it & he said, ‘Hey, I’m a punter. I might need to kick the ball a few times tomorrow. I can stay up for a while, have another beer & still be fine.’

Ha - in retrospect, he could’ve also said, ‘I’m effing Ray Guy & this is a pre-season game. They’re not cutting me so I can do what I want.’

Oh, you know that is EXACTLY what will happen once again. We'll be in some minor bowl and we'll most likely win. And we'll all be here in late July saying ..."This is the year, this is the year man...." I'll be saying it too... I fall for it every time.

Rinse. Repeat.

This week will be our best shot to beat a ranked opponent in what, 12 years? At least that's how long it seems since we have. But honestly was Baylor the last ranked opponent we beat, with Trickett?

A few thoughts.

1 - someone mentioned a muffed punt. But, that was not a muffed pint. That was one of OUR idiots throwing an opposing player into OUR punt returner while he was trying to catch the ball. Some coaches would have sat that player down for the entire rest of the game.

2 - TT - toss-up.

@ Baylor - Loss.

OSU - Loss.

Iowa State - toss-up.

@ K State - Loss.

Texas (with Ehrlinger at QB) - Loss.
(with Beuschele) - Toss-up.

@ OU - Loss.

Damn guys. What the hell? In our two losses it took; in both games monumental punting from the other team, questionable calls from officiating, a dropped touchdown pass with 2 seconds left, and a terrible pass interference during the last drive, to lose by one score against two top ~15 opponents. And that means we will win 4-6 games?? Are we watching the same team?
