Weird. Not sure what they were expecting. Seemed like a nice tribute to the 2008 team. White should be in WVU HoF.

Those guys should have their own keys to the place...

That's sad.

I think that players should always be welcomed back. Without them (White and Slaton) who knows where the current state of WVU football would be. I mean hell, Miami always has former players on the sidelines even, and when the team is doing bad the former players show up and kick the the new guys asses. Plus it shows current and future players that, "hey this place is good enoigh to have these old players coming back, maybe im making the right decision"

I think the current administration needs to fix this so these guys feel welcome. How hard can it be?

Agreed.

The present always needs to respect the past. This needs to be addressed (if this is truly what happened).

After all, the present is doomed to become the past ... then what?

Exactly. This is spot on. Plus it gives the bobble-head announcers something to talk about. Makes us look good.

I just can't imagine they wouldn't want these guys on the sideline for games. There has to be more to it. I might be way off but wasn't White openly critical of the staff in the past. A few years back wasn't Holgs talking about there being people on the sideline talking **** about the team during the game.

Yes. Couldn't possibly see why a coaching staff would treat players from a previous coaching staff that tried to get him fired would be cool to seeing the guys.

That is sarcasm by the way. Our previous guys should be allowed to tour the place and that should get fixed by Lyons. I recognize why the locker room would not be a place for them right now. Last Saturday was a serious football game. If WVU loses that game its possible they don't go to a bowl.

I see why the current staff didn't want the distractions. WIth that said if it were as haphazardly put together as it was maybe the perceived slight was just incompetence from the administration than it was a slight.

On the other hand....none of the players really know them....the coaching staff is different, the AD is different, and the President of the University is different.

I will always think the world of Pat White but I think he should give the administration another chance.

Wait a minute. You mean a limo didn't meet Pat White's private jet so it could bring him to a private stadium entrance where he is carried to a private elevator by cheerleaders on rose petals to the newly renovated Pat White suite at the stadium?

Nobody else is bitching but then again all he has done is bitch about Dana and the Big12. I think this has rubbed some people (including me) the wrong way. Next time maybe he will be a man and air his problems with the individuals rather than taking to twitter and his podcast like someone else I won't mention.

When Pat White starts supporting the team and staff rather than living in the past then he'll regain my respect.

Edit: This is interesting.

Yeah, you're probably right. Heaven forbid we have members of a highly successful past team standing on the sidelines during a game. It could give a lot of these players a serious inferiority complex and might allow the networks to talk about the past success of WVU football.

I seriously doubt Dana is that insecure that he can't have past players on the sidelines during a game. After listening to the podcast, it sounds like Pat and Steve are saying this is the general consensus among past players visiting WVU. I would venture to guess it goes well above Dana...or just piss-poor planning on whomever is inviting the players to campus...something Dana would have nothing to do with.

Have we a touchy, feely, snow-flake situation here? My Lord, if they don't think we appreciate them, they really need some help. How many football players have graduated before, during, and after their tenure? ...and they don't feel the love?...or is it a lust for the missed direct attention. Grow up. The real world asks "What have you done/are you doing for me TODAY?"

I agree with the sentiments about Dana, he definitely doesn't seem like the type to care if they are on the sidelines. Dana's already added to the program, and I'm sure he would recognize how much Pat and Steve meant to us, I would be shocked to learn it was his doing. Pretty surprising though, I mean, I assumed that Pat and Steve would be treated like Gods at Milan Puskar for what they did for this program, and those magical few years, someone in the athletic department needs to figure this out. History is important, gives the current guys something to clutch on to, to make their time at WVU mean something more, something special. Yes, you don't want to live in the past, but you definitely must appreciate things like that.

Dont underestimate how petty the HC can be. Remember when Coach Stewart wanted to get some dirt on Holgorsen? Some fans still think Stewart was the better coach. You think Holgy is going to roll out the red carpet to honor Stewart's biggest accomplishment?
The administration can and should honor these guys, just don't expect Holgorsen to bend over backwards for them

Didn't Pat get his own special day a season or two ago? Wasn't he personally invited into the locker room by Dana to talk to the team about what it was to be a Mountaineer and the pride of this program? I could look it up but I'm sure someone will know for sure.

I love Pat White and Steve Slaton but seriously, do they think that the coaches have anything to do with the 2008 team being honored? I'd be willing to guess it was put on by someone in the athletic department and they didn't assume two former players would get upset that they weren't allowed free rein of the football complex on gameday. Even so, why put it on blast on your podcast and not talk with the athletic department directly? If what you want is nothing but the best for WVU and the team then I'm not sure why you air your hurt feelings like that.

Furthermore, drop all the Big East inferiority complex BS. The conference is no more, even if WVU wanted to be in it, the conference died. Would they feel better if WVU was in the American Conference? The fact they keep bringing that up takes away from their argument that they aren't being treated well and hints more to the fact that maybe they're just a bit butthurt about something.

Here's the thing, on game day I hope our staff is busy with the task at hand. I'm sorry but they don't have time to make sure the former players needs are met. That's a job for the Letterman Club not a coaching staff on game day. If it's during the week and not during practice then yes as I said on Twitter, their should be GAs walking around tossing rose peddles on the ground for the GOAT to walk on. Pat White is still my favorite player of all time and unless somebody wins a NC and Heisman while rescuing babies from a burning building he always will be. With that said he can be a petty guy. This isn't the first time he's aired some type of grievance. Beer Truck is just as beloved as PW and Super Steve yet is always around the program but has never complained about being treated bad.

A lot of these recruits, especially the guys from the region grew up worshiping PW and Slaton. You hear current players talk about watching those guys as kids. You think Dana would purposely slight this centuries face of the program? Quincy Wilson was around the team a lot when Dana first showed up, what, Dana likes Wilson and not Pat? Come on.

If I'm Dana, it's game day and a former star player shows up with 50 or so teammates and starts acting like he is entitled to more than everyone else, I'm probably going to roll my eyes and go on with beating the #15 team with out giving it much thought.

Again, love Pat and am thankfull for what he did for us but he's got to understand as the Grey Ghost did at the end of Everybody's All American his days are over. Just take the timeout break shoutout/standing ovation and roll with it. He kind of sounds like the blue hairs, "we should still be playing in the Big East with UCONN and USF. Now be still, Matlock's on".

Or Dana might be spiteful, like damn son you set expectation too damn high.

Let's be real here: present day Mountaineer football is the house Pat and Steve built. It didn't sound like they were making unreasonable requests. If the school wants to get all these guys together from across the country for basically one weekend, I don't think it's too much to ask for it to be better organized and worth their time. We at the very least owe them that. Pretty disappointing to hear.
