In 2 years, Texas will be playing like OU, so we will be competing with a powerful Texas program, a powerful OU program, a scary OSU program, a consitently good TCU program and a Baylor program that will rebound very quickly. Snider will be retiring, so KState will be down, TTU, KU and ISU will hopefully remain similar to their history. How do we compete for championships in this new world order of the B12 that we find ourselves in?

We better step up our recruiting. We need some beasts on defense and on the lines for starters, IMO.

Better players. It's the only way, and will be nearly impossible to do.

Free hookers and blow.

Put shock collars on the players and when they miss an assignment or tackle give them a shock.

Hire Karl Joseph as our tackling coordinator.

Pray for a billionaire alumni who loves WVU football.

Move the campus to another state.

If we can put together a great roster and a couple top tier teams like OU or Texas get a couple key injuries, or maybe an uncovered scandal or something, we could pull it off and maybe even earn a playoff trip. Otherwise, it reminds me of playing Miami, PSU, a good sPitt team and even VT in their prime in the Nehlen days. We will beat them sometimes, but not often at all.

I don't think for many reasons including recruiting this is the best conference for us. Time to study our options.

This is a good question and something I was thinking about earlier this season in regards to Holgorsen and his staff...whether or not they are the bunch that can get us to that Big 12 Championship. I hope so but I'm having doubts.

Putting the coaching aside, looking at our body of work thus far I don't think that we are a program that has no business in the Big 12....we've beaten every team except OK and this season we notched our first win at Kansas State. We're not bottom feeders but we haven't cracked the top tier either.

It's quite clear that you have to be in a P5 conference to get to the playoffs so this is what we have to deal with for the next couple years at least. What I think Holgorsen and the staff need to do after this season is over is sit down around a table and figure out how we are going to beat Oklahoma because it's become obvious that we are nowhere near at a level of competing with them. And as the OP mentioned, Texas is not going to be down forever and TCU will be competitive (as long as they keep Patterson around, anyway)and so on but OK is the hurdle we have to figure out how to clear. I don't think it's the scheme on defense....under Casteel the 3-3-5 was pretty darn good against the run but mediocre against the pass. I think our offense will be in pretty good shape in the future as they have done a good job recruiting at the skill positions (sans QB which has been miss more than hit). So I don't know but our road to a Big 12 championship goes through the team we have yet to beat since we've joined the conference and that's what they are going to have to figure out.

I'm fine with being a member of the Big 12 but come the next round of Conference Armageddon I hope we can get into the ACC and land in the Coastal division - playing Miami, Virginia Tech and Pitt again would be great for the program. What's more, the travel for the other sports programs would be easier. I don't know how the basketball program deals with 9pm CST games and having to head to the airport after post-game interviews around midnight.

Hire Huggins as D-Coordinator. Maybe bring along Carter to play CB and Sags to play D-End

Recruiting and talent development are the backbone of any elite college program. Money is the necessary but rough part of it.

It’s a tough league to win, that’s for sure. But no tougher, and probably a lot easier to win than the B10 or SEC. Ask Penn St and LSU fans about the struggles winning their division, let alone their conference. As WVU fans we were spoiled with winning a weak conference nearly every year 2004-2011. I think our goal as a program needs to be to qualify for the B12 title game 2 out of 5 years, winning it once and that one year hopefully we are able to qualify or contend for a playoff spot. This is the Oklahoma St route. I don’t buy for a single second that we cannot be what OSU is...a program that is consistently ranked 10-25 and if you look at a 4 year cycle, they have year 1 6 or 7 wins, year 2 8-9 wins and in the polls more often than not, year 3 top 15 compete for B12 year 4 top 8 compete for national title. Just because they fell short doesn’t mean they didn’t follow their cycle (they also have an oklahoma problem). The population of Oklahoma is 3.9 million but WVU probably produces as much or more instate talent than OSU has access to in their own state due to being second fiddle to a behemoth. Both schools are surrounded by large states that produce tons of talent. Our overall athletic department is far superior to theirs. Coaching is the difference. And I’m not saying to fire Dana, but the difference between the program we are now and the program we should aspire to be is as simple as Holgorsen vs Gundy

It's making a deal with the devil... Bring in better players with questionable character and we may be the Baylor of the past or Oklahoma today. Huggs did it and it damn near killed him and he said no more. I say I like our 3 Stars and White family type players...

We may not win the Big 12 very often if ever, but we won't be holding our breath reading the police blotter.
