And Pitt beat Miami! Did you see this? Did you hear about this?

College football sure is wacky!

Every team in college football has that head scratcher game. Sometimes they dodge the L but they all have that game. That is what I love about college football.

A good team is the one that is tiring to avoid the upset not be the team causing the upset.

More games than not we are now the team expected to win. Coach is building us back to where we need to be.

This was 2004

I just have always hated the 3 3 5. I don't think it will ever be good enough to beat Big 12 teams, and the longer we use it, the more the Bug 12 teams will be used to it.

We are 27-27 against the Big 12 since joining the conference. It obviously works half the time.

I like the 3-3-5 but it works best like last year, when you have a team that runs over 60% of time, with mobile QB.
Next year if we follow this model, we should win 9 games, especially with the Defensive ends we are bringing in. CB's again will be a huge question mark. I think preseason we were all hoping Cory Winfield would of been a solid CB, that didn't happen. Next year we could have the same problems. With Mike Daniels and Bailey graduating, not sure who replaces them. Don't see anyone in recruiting class either.

And who does WVU open with next year? lol. That's joking really, Gundy doesn't really scare me and him trying to turn Tennessee into Okie St will take some time. Besides, I don't think he has had Dana's number as much as his teams have been better than Dana's the last couple of years. In 2013 WVU sucked, and somehow beat Okie State. In 2015 WVU was very average, and Okie State almost let us pull it off. If anything I'd say they've about been when it comes to coaching, Gundy has just had better/more good players at his disposal.

FWIW, rumors are now flying that Okie State players have been address by Gundy and told that he is heading to Knoxville, UT plane there to take him away. True or not, in a way I feel bad for their fans because we were all there with the Dick Rod drama, but I've really come to dislike them so screw them.

If ok state called Dana would go. He always talks about all the resources they have and how easy it is to recruit there.

So Dana will be at our 1st game next year, just on the other sideline ~ kidding, but how long Dana stays is debatable ...

This is an interesting article.

My take is that the schools that cut ties with their coach are seen as not loyal. And that affects who they can hire to coach there.

The schools where the coach leaves on his own for greener pastures are viewed as schools that are loyal to their coaches. And that makes them more attractive to coaches looking to move up.

So ... if Holgy wants to leave ... we will survive.

If we let him go ... we could pay a price.

That is an interesting way to look at it and it might be right too.

I kind of look at it from a salesman's point of view, if you think you are going to be top salesperson year in and year out without a drop off or correction, you are WRONG. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water. You will have good times and bad times and with all of the dynamics at play you sometimes have to look further than the W-L spread sheet. In the article it was also pointed out that when seats were empty the economy sucked. I am sure that was part of the reason but, Luck was a lawyer so he knew how to play to the audience. Attendance was not the ONLY reason. Notice how I said ONLY reason, because there where other dynamics in play too.
So in summary - let's not throw Dana down the drain because he has an off year here and there.

And to Gold's point, it is probably not a bad idea of being know to NOT throw out your coach for one or two bad years.

FWIW - I can also remember a couple of national champions that if the ball hadn't bounced in there favor, more than once, they would have never played for the NC that year. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than great. Luck does have a place in most National Championships especially when you are dealing with 130 teams (Not really 130 but it sounds good).

As a note, from a solely "football" point of view, State Penn had some lean years under Paterno, as well. They kept him and they began to win again. Maybe it's a thin example for many reasons, but, in essence, tearing out the foundation (ie:coach) does not necessarily build a better house. Hope this kinda makes sense.

I agree that Dana should stay. The program seems to be heading in the correct direction. My un-educated reason is that I don't notice a ton of difference between our 1 and 2's. That to me says the skill and talent is growing in Morgantown.

If we were 8-4 with a win over VT (or TCU), both games we could have won, I don't think we're having this discussion at all.

If we were 9-3 with wins over both, we're very happy.

That's 16 points that made the difference between a very happy year, and a year we're considering firing everyone.

In reality....it's not really that bad.
