Vegas will have: Bama with best chance to win it all,
2nd Clemson
3rd Georgia
4th Oklahoma

Listening to Urban Meyer, did not seem pissed at all, completely understood.

I don't know, I think Clemson will/should be the favorite.I could make the argument that Bama is the worst team of these 4.

And reduce regular season to 10 games? That's 4 games for the champion and runner-up. Never happen.

I am very happy that the B1G did not get a team in. I can stomach two SEC teams, as long as it means that the Big 10 failed to get a team in.
The fastest way to get to an 8 team playoff will be if the darling conferences like the Big 10 fail to get a team in.
IMHO, the P5 conferences ranked from best to worst would be: SEC, Big 12, ACC, Big 10, PAC 12.
Now, we need for Oklahoma (as much as I despise them and their asshole QB), to win it all. This conference needs a National Title. The single thing that rescued the ACC from all of the criticism a few years ago was winning a couple of titles. Since FSU and Clemson won it all, you don't hear how bad that conference is anymore. We need the same for this conference.

Chris Anderson tweeted earlier today that the only thing the Big 12 championship game accomplished was to knock TCU out of a new year's 6 Bowl, costing the conference millions. LOL

I would not think that an 11th ranked TCU, had they won and had an 11-2 record, would have vaulted over the PAC 12 champ USC, the Big 10 champ OSU both with an 11-2 record, as well as Penn State and Miami to get into the playoff.

Therefore, TCU would have been relegated to playing a New Year's 6 bowl, instead of having Oklahoma in the playoff. I would say that our conference made a good trade-up getting a playoff berth over a New Year's 6 bowl.

I get it now. So he was insinuating that the Big 12 should not have HAD a conference championship game at all?

I would say that with no championship game, the committee may have locked the Big 12 out, as they have in the past.

Those look like the 4 best to me

Just my opinion but I don't think they will allow Alabama in. I think they learned their lesson with Ohio State last year. OSU didn't even score a point. I think the committee will choose Ohio State over Alabama. You could very easily say that Alabama lost to Georgia too. The Auburn game wasn't really close.

How about pissing everyone off and allowing UCF in on their undefeated season? Do I think they are one of the four best? I don't really know but I do know no one has proven that they are better than them this year. Can't say that for the rest of the people.

The fourth team could be considered irrelevant. I really think this may belong to either Clemson, Oklahoma or Georgia. So I say give it to the Knights!

I think the UCF / Auburn game may be good if the Nebraska coach coaches the last game. UCF gonna have a chip on their shoulder.

Am I wrong, or doesn't the artist formerly known as Div. 1AA (FCS) have 16 teams in their playoff? I mean, they all seem to be ok after ALL those games, right? Shitload of money to be made. In the words of the great Mike Leach, "College football has no reason to just give the NFL the entire month of December. So do the bowls a week or maybe two weeks after the season ends." Fans are happy. Best team wins.. Who loses?
This format also lends itself to the renegotiation of television money, and the realignment of the conferences for the best college football football landscape ever, if the dominos fall into place when the majority of conferences are due to renegotiate in 2024-2025. Let's cross our fingers..

At that level they only play 11 games during the regular season. They don't have a conference championship. So you need to pitch to the big boys that they reduce their season by one or two games depending on the team.

Let me save you some time......It ain't a gonna happen.

They make WAYYYYY too much money on those games to give that up. They, in their hearts, would forfeit a "real" championship to shove money in their pockets.

Its worse than the old system, or at least no better. Id like to see them take the conf champs from the SEC, ACC, B10, B12, Pac12 and then give one at large bid to a UCF type team. Thats the playoff for the NC game.

So glad OSU out now Urban can lead the investigation for camera man.

Bama deserved it over OSU

If we keep this system, KEEP IT THE SAME four teams. Don’t water it down.

8 team playoff -- Winners of the 5 power conferences, highest ranked non-power 5 team, and two at large. There are years when two teams from one conference deserve to get it, and this format would allow for that.

Im hoping this is where we land. It works in high school and at the other college levels.

The bulk of the schools still playing 12 games + a bowl. The ones that make the conf championships (except ND, BYU) play 13 + a bowl and 8 teams play 13 + 1, 4 teams play 13 + 2 and 2 teams play 13 + 3. It's one more game for a handful of teams.

Then winning your conference guarantees you a spot. This likely changes the philosophies of the P5 schools to play easier OOC games to give them less wear and tear and to pad their records unless the NCAA makes a rule about how OOC is to work. And ND and BYU would have an advantage in wear and tear, but perhaps a disadvantage due fo one less data point.

Random thoughts.

Bama deserved it. Remember, they beat Florida State when FSU HAD their starting QB and had their whole season ahead of them. He got hurt on practically the last play. Everybody else beat FSU when FSU was playing their back-up. (Think Grier, then Chugs).

With NO Big XII championship game, Oklahoma gets in as the 3/4 seed, and TCU is playing New Years Day.

With an 8 team playoff, the biased pollsters would over-rank their favorite teams to keep them at the top of the rankings so they could get into the playoffs even if they don't win their conference championship.

Jimbo to A&M??? WTF!

Edwards to ASU??? Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!

I think folks are overlooking GA. Most balanced team in the playoffs.

Oklahoma was safely in without the championship game. This season was a lose-lose situation for the conference championship game. I would say in most seasons, the way the conference is set up, the championship game will do more harm than good. 2014 is really the only scenario in which the championship game would serve it's purpose. TCU was on the fringe of the first playoff and would have had an opportunity to avenge its only loss to Baylor. That would have likely got them in over Ohio State.

However, in most years, the same scenario as this year is likely to play out. If TCU would have beaten Oklahoma this season they would have been thrown into a pool with OSU, USC, and Alabama in a pick 2 situation that they would have been left out in. If they want to conference championship game then they need to expand and form two divisions. Easier said than done, I know.
