Over 70 years since we were last ranked this high.

Jerry West may have to come back to relive the heyday of this phenomenal season.

POLL IMPLICATIONS
https://www.cbssports.com/college-bask ... eats-no-7-oklahoma-89-76/

West Virginia has the chance to move up in the AP poll after a 2-0 week, which could give the Mountaineers their highest ranking since they were No. 3 in December 1962. The Sooners could remain in the top 10 despite the loss after No. 2 Duke, No. 4 Arizona State and No. 5 Xavier fell to unranked opponents.

This article was before Michigan State's loss!

Study the win as this is the most important factor used by the voters in ranking the teams. At least per Michigan State's case and the loss to a #1 team

The perfect fit for West Virginia.... is point guard Jevon Carter. He gets up for every challenge Bob Huggins puts in front of him. He scored 17 and had 10 assists in the home win over Oklahoma and Trae Young (29 points, five assists and 8 turnovers). The Mountaineers are a national player as in a contender to go DEEP.

We have a DEEEEP bench with ESA available for the TEXAS Tech game. Texas Tech beat Kansas at Kansas so they are looking to knock off a #1 ranked team. We must win this away game to keep our streak running.

Calm down everyone. There is a LONG way to go.

We have tough games every time out for the rest of the season. We better concentrate on beating a VERY good Baylor team tomorrow.

Shhhhh. Now is a time for quiet observation and reflection. Especially, observation.

If we lose to Baylor today's ranking is meaningless.

One game at a time. Please.

1) there is no possible way we jump Nova. We may not even jump MSU. I'm fine with that. The higher the ranking, the higher the pressure on 18 to 20 year old kids.

2) it's January. If we keep taking care of business, the rankings will take care of themselves. March is what matters.

3) the likelihood of avoiding a meltdown like every other top ten team has suffered in the past week or two is virtually nil. We've had a great run; I'm enjoying the heck out of it and I hope it continues. The thing that matters is how we respond to that meltdown if/when it comes. Let's see what Duke, MSU, ASU, and Xavier do this week.

Small minds think in quiet and should not post their fears. This is not a corporate boardroom full of YES men but a couch-burning rally building fan site. I suggest you go home to Mommy and get some milk and cookies.

Resume isn't everything with voting. Even if a team has more losses and less solid wins, sometimes the eye test dictates where the voters will go. (It would not surprise me to see Duke still ranked in front of us for this very reason.)

Our resume (that everyone is using to vault WVU into #1 ranking) is good, not great. We've beaten a good, but flawed Oklahoma team in Morgantown and 2 sub-par Big 12 opponents on the road.

UVA is the other big win and that was also at home.

Like sg44gold said, it's a long season. It'll be exciting to see such a high rank by the WV on the ESPN ticker, but expectations should be slightly tempered.

1958 our players lead by the immortal Jerry West went undefeated in the Southern Conference! Can we not expect a similar conference record in the Big 12? We have the team to go all the way and outside forces posting on our fan site should not dissuade any Neer fan that we are not #1 today!

We have been playing without Esa. He is the next building block to solidify this season's campaign to #1. When you are handicapped and have a freshman like TBA aka Buckets score at will off the bench and your leader of the past missing the first half of the season then YES we are a #1 team!

Do not let these zombie thinkers influence you in our status of the nation's best program. Been far too long since we were #1, 70 years! Time to get a new mindset about winning. We have the nation's longest win streak and sb ranked accordingly.

Note to naysayers, you are drinking ESPN's kool-aid and posting on the wrong board. Be careful about your words in public as this state has full knowledge of the disrespect ESPN has shown us and we are not going to take it anymore!

Agree with rocket. It would be fun to be number 1 for a minute, but I'd rather be snubbed and be 2-4 so that Huggy can keep the boys motivated by saying "no respect", "anti-WVU bias", "the voters know you aren't there yet" to keep them level headed and hungry, instead of feeling like they have a bullseye on them and feeling like they have to win, when surely they will not win out from here.

Longing for the praise, recognition and accolades of a broken system is a waste of energy. It's January 8th, not March 8th. Being in the top 10 and having only one loss is all that really matters at this point. I just want to keep winning as much as possible. If we manage to beat a formerly ranked and possibly re-ranked Baylor tomorrow, then a highly ranked TTU away and a highly ranked Kansas at home, I will be expecting a 1 ranking and will be offended if we don't have it. But even then, it's better for us if we are number 2--fuel for the fire.

Bottom line, it's not who gets the first kiss at the party, it's who gets laid at the end of the night.

Most of what I have been reading this morning suggests that Nova will be #1 and we will probably be #2. After we lost to Texas A&M, many people were ready to write the season off. Now we are sniffing top 3. We can either be offended or we can enjoy the ranking and the week ahead.

Why are you here with a comment like "when surely they will not win out from here." Please just fade away into your negativity. Your comment about being determined minded by being disrespected happened last week and we beat Oklahoma but playing the odds against your own boys is not fan worthy.

What a 70-year drought has brought the state of thinking in WV is surprising. I am a Vegan and have clear thinking and know beyond a shadow of a doubt that this team today is #1!

Get your rally hats on a plan a rally to celebrate our newfound ranking! Time to party like its 1958. Get Jerry West on the phone or in person to comment on this feat. Call the Gov and get his response. This is a statewide holiday for us as we do not have professional teams! Does anybody else recognize the significance of this feat?

Where are the believers, as I am signing off with all this bs negative posting by supposedly loyal fans?

His zombie spew is a defensive response to protect the backroom money interest BSPN has in controlling the rankings. If the writers can favor a low SOS Michigan State at #1 then they the obligation to lift a multi-top 10 win program over a much lower best of win program like Nova!

Both our wins are higher than Nova's win against Gonzaga, a top twenty program. How could you not think we are not #1; but no mention of this logic as we did not pay you to write the article. The slant of one's logic is found in the absence of the full truth.

1. Nova
2. WVU
3. UVA
4. Tex Tech
5. OU

OU loses to WVU but moves up 2 spots? Huh?

If T A&M were still ranked, I think we would have been #1. We needed Mizzou to win too.

Oh, that makes more sense then. I thought it was AP ranking.

I know it should not matter what rankings are this time of year, but I would just like to see the #1 by WVU's name for once in my life. Other than in Rifle.
